Every time that I saw Alex I could see that he was smiling. At first I thought that he was starting to make friends. Then I learned that he was getting abused at school and at home. His mom left him when he was little leaving him with his dad and his abusive girl friend. They didn't care is what he always told me. I saw him every day a smile on his face but such a sad look in his eyes. "Hey Kelly!!!" He shouted as he spotted me walking home from school one day. Ounce again he had a smile on his face but a sad lonely look in his eyes. "Hey Alex is everything okay?"

Alex looked at me confused. "Yeah everything is great why?" I sighed getting mad and knowing that if I didn't do something he would go on like this again. "Alex please don't lie to me. I know that your upset and something is bothering you so spill it." His smile dropped and he gave me a sad smile. He said some words that sent a chill down my spin. "Didn't you hear the news Kelly...Happy is the new Sad." Then he walked away from me with out another word. I repeated the words he said to me in my head. What do you mean Alex. Happy is the new Sad? Why are you being so distant from me? Please I can help you if you let me. I thought to my self wanting to shout it out to him but I knew that he wouldn't listen.
