Nothing fazes me anymore. What I mean is that this world is built on a society held by pillars made ups on an upstairs, downstairs, social construct that negativity spurs from. Society suppresses us with its ideals of what the word normal is supposed to be, and what beauty should look like. If society was personified, he’d be the biggest hypocrite of them all. Telling us that we can, but not really. That we should, we shan't, we could, we won’t. That the colors are vibrant; not really. That my words mean nothing! That anything we do is never good enough! Society can make us feel like failures. Confounding us with shackles. He knows we’ll never break them. How could we? We made him into this monster. Our ancestors built those pillars with their own hands, and we were expected to feed him. Now he consumes us. Simply awaiting for us to burn so we can go down with him. I say this because it is the twenty first century, and there is still racesisim, sexisim, homophobia! Not only are drugs being trafficked but people are too! You have to walk home with eyes behind your head, and if they aren't open while you sleep, you hold a gun closest to your bed. This is because you could get murdered in your sleep, and raped on the street. Possibilities are endless, but fact remains you can get harmed, and eventually you will. It may be settle in the grand prospect of things, yet It’ll be devastating. You won’t be fine unless you pick yourself up. Afterward, you’ll be okay, unless you chose to remain in pieces. Yes, it could be a choice. Our lives are made up of these choices. We can choose to stand up or sit down. We can choose to stay or leave. We even have the power decide when to sleep and when to never wake again! I mean how could we go on with systems that require us to get jobs that need degrees, that cost money, that need jobs. Systems that tell us we are adults that need to decide our own fate, but pull the rugs from underneath us because we are children. Systems that institutionalize us that dare ask us to look up to people who look down on us because we’re rebellious when we’re just looking to be on an equal level of respect! Systems that are meant to protect us kill us instead just because they can. Oh, don’t we love the sweet taste of brutality in the morning. See the reason it doesn't faze me anymore, it’s because I have a voice, and now I’ve been heard.

In high school I did spoken word poetry in slam competitions, so this is what this is. Honestly, I didn't want to post any of my spoken word pieces, mainly because I don't want people to think that I took my own piece from the internet, but I also want to keep my stage name and my pen name separate. However, I felt that in the times we're in right now, this needs to be out there. Enjoy.

This series is made of different types of literature, mainly poetry and short stories, but occasionally you'll see old essays I've found digging through my old notebooks. I hope you all enjoy it.
