Section G was run down compared to the entrance of this place. Brick walls were untreated and covered in moss, garbage and other unspeakable things littered the ground. Lights were burnt out creating a dreary darkness, and giving the area an uneasy feeling.
There were not many patrons down here, and good reason for it. After some not so quick navigating I figured out where I was going, as predicted it was down a dark, partially lit alley.
I took a deep breath, preparing myself before I stepped foot into darkness. I reached into my left coat pocket feeling the cold, hard, brass of my insurance policy. I wasn’t much of a fighter, but I wasn’t about to get my skull caved in either. As I ambled through the alley I heard, and saw a lot more than I needed to. Infact, this whole area seemed a lot less restricted than the rest of the red light district. Half of the rooms were empty or destroyed leaving inky black gaps in the wall. At the end of the alley was what I was looking for room 25, and it was empty, perfect. I entered the room silently, so as to not cause a commotion. Even though probably no one would care. I flicked on the lights and it was as expected, a small bed and a chair on the inside of the room. All you really needed here. The side of the bed had a small royal purple button. I pushed it, and nothing happened. I pushed it a second time to make sure, still nothing. Right about now would be a good time to put my detective skill to use I thought to myself. I walked over to an adjacent room which was empty as well. I found the same button here and pushed it, I heard a loud “BEEP” sound for a quick second. About thirty seconds later a security officer rushed in, baton in his right hand, and mag lite in his left. I held my hands up high.
“Now what the hell, are you doing in here? Pushing damn buttons, and not minding your business?”
“I’m just poking my nose around.” I responded.
“Well maybe you should do that somewhere else! Those buttons are for emergencies only!” He yelled.
“Sorry to concern you, It won’t happen again” I suggested.
“You’d better hope not!” He replied angrily
Satisfied, he stumbled out of the room back to the main plaza.
I quickly ran back into room 25, avoiding trash on the ground. I reached the bed inside and found the button from earlier. I reached out, hand shaking in fear, I pressed it.
The Emergency Button did nothing, it didn’t beep. No security guard came sprinting in. Curious, I slid my hand down the wall and found small separation in the drywall. My hand stuck to the not quite dry paint. I reached into my coat pocket, and slid my fingers into the smooth brass. The drywall gave way with ease, behind was wiring. I saw two heavy gauged wires, one black and one red. Both were snipped, rendering this whole system useless. I slid the mostly undamaged square of drywall back into place, it looked the same as before. I took a seat on the floor, resting my back up against the wall, taking all the information in, and writing notes. The whole case grew to another level. It had grew from a simple search and find, to a search and rescue. Something bad was going to happen, and I had to be here to stop it.
