So could an ellipse be a "hypobola"?
Meet the conics. An ellipse has an eccentricity between 0 and 1, while a hyperbola has an eccentricity larger than 1. Hyper also has asymptotes (those lines you approach but never reach). If anyone wants sample equations, I can provide those.
