Dear Grim Reaper,
Nilly got her babies! 6 puppies and they all look like her. Spotty doesn't but it's okay because he's still really cute. Nilly is Bee's dog. Bee is our new neighbor. He's really big with loads of tattoos and silver rings on his body and I thought he was scary but not really. He has a big dog who is bigger than me and her name is Nilly. She's really nice :D Bee says she's a labaradoor. Yesterday he bought me a ice-cream when I fell. My favorite is strawberry but he got me chocolate. I like chocolate too but strawberry is really tasty. Do you like Ice-cream? What's your favorite ice-cream?
Mommy and Daddy were fighting again. Daddy left last week and he isn't back yet, I don't know where he went. I don't really like dad, he's being mean to Mommy and me. He drinks beer, it smells really weird and hes always angry at me. Do you know why dads so mean? You have magic right? Can you read peoples minds? I need to go to bed. goodnight Grim.
Lots of Life,
Hailer.

I read the letter with a blank face and rolled my eyes when I finished it. Picking up my phone I dialed boss's number, folding the letter up. He picked up and his face showed up on a screen in front of my desk "boss. Back up. You're way too close" I chuckled. He quickly leaned back in his seat, trying to act all cool while I shook my head in amusement "you know. If you want to contact me, you can just use this" I motioned to my phone and he lowered his head a little.
He shook his head and spoke in a gruff, polished voice "I don't understand newbie technology. With all these new recruits who are all about "internet" and "wifi" and communication devices that work on one end of the earth to the other in seconds. I don't see how you manage to work it" I saw him pick up his phone, looking it over.
"Boss. Just ask your newbie. He'll show you everything. Anyway. I've sent out my one and he says that he's met an Amalin. Should I do anything about it?" I leaned back in my chair, stretching. Boss put his phone down "An Amalin. I was sure we'd gotten rid of all of them. How old?" there was a knock on my office door "Come in" I called out.
"13 years. Almost 14" I watched the door swing open and sighed when a raven flew in, placing itself on the desk in front of me "13 years?!? How could we have missed an Amalin for 13 years. If your newbie saw it then that means that they're in your area. How did you miss it?" Boss leaned forward in horror.
I put my hands up in surrender "hey hey. We've been chasing it for all this time. At first we thought someone was making it up but no. There's evidence. It's possible maybe they know. If they were smiled upon then it probably means they know how to hide themselves. I swear we're getting closer though" I looked at the raven and it was staring at me.
I hissed at it and it flapped it's wings once, not agreeing with me "Don't bother. Even those who are smiled upon wouldn't believe that they were Amalin's. They'd probably just assume we mean vampire" boss shook his head and sighed "Someone's protecting them. Someone from here. You don't have to kill it since after 13 years of inaction it's probably harmless. If you do find them, watch over them. Got it?" he asked.
I nodded, reaching over to end the call "gotcha boss" I hung up and let out a breath, turning my gaze to stare at the raven. It stared right back at me and flew out my office through the still open door. I stood up quickly, following after it when I noticed the pattern on its back.
I threw my door open fully and when my eyes met his starry gaze I glared at him, his smug face looking quite pleased with himself for some reason "hello brother" he grinned "Sleep" I growled.

*Hailey's POV
I heard a crash outside and quickly sat up. I looked at the alarm clock I had bought which was currently sitting on my bedside table. 3:37. For god's sake, what's up with waking up around 3 am? I don't think the other numbers like me very much.
I heard another crash and quickly jumped out of bed, grabbing the pocket knife I had next to the alarm clock as well as the torch in my drawer. I tiptoed towards my bedroom door, placed my hand on the handle, took a deep breath and swung the door open, clicking the torch on.
I heard Darren scream as he fell backwards, covering his eyes from the light. I lowered the beam so it was facing the ground "dude. What the hell. Why were you making so much noise?" I whisper yelled "It wasn't me I swear" He exclaimed, his voice low as he stood up.
I frowned "well then who else could it be?" I hid my knife behind me so the light wouldn't shine off the metal "I don't know. I got back hours ago. I was sleeping and I was just coming out of my room to check the noise" he crossed his arms and I rolled my eyes.
I started walking towards the living room and Darren followed after me, trying to stand in front of me cause, and I quote, "I'm the man, I'm meant to be in front" fuck you and your stupid sexism. I could beat you up with one hand tapped behind my back you useless pancake.
I shone the light into the living room and the first thing we saw was the lamp next to the T.V, on the floor, broken. The second thing was the T.V remote on the floor. I know cause I almost stepped on it, behind the couch, why is it not on the coffee table...?
We looked around trying to figure out what was breaking everything until there was a loud squawk from the window. Darren jumped and squealed but I just turned the torch to see what was there. A crow? The fuck? The window was wide open and the screen was thorn apart.
"why did you leave the window open?" Darren whispered annoyingly "I didn't. I thought it was you? It was closed when I went to bed" I whispered back, actually I sort of snapped at him as I said it. The bird squawked again and I quickly switched on the living room light, squinting at the sudden brightness of the room.
The bird practically screamed and started flying around the room, screeching, knocking things over, I think it pooped on the coffee table right before it disappeared into the window-less kitchen.
Darren and I glanced at each other and immediately ran into the kitchen, stopping quickly when we saw the bird just calmly standing on the kitchen table. Darren switched on the kitchen light and it screeched again.
I jumped and dove for the light switch, turning the lights back off, which calmed the bird almost immediately. Darren and I stared at each other in horror and started whispering angrily about how to get out "What? I'm not gonna grab it!" Darren looked horrified.
"You're right. You really are a man. Talk about what you can do but when it comes down to doing it the woman has to take over to save you. Ugh, it would really help us out if your cowardice wasn't as big as your god damn ego" I whisper yelled, turning to the bird, leaving Darren shocked.
"Alright. I'm gonna grab it and you make sure the window stays open while I throw the bird out. Okay?" I asked, while Darren just looked really pissed off. Thankfully he had his priorities set straight which meant that he was gonna help me first, insult me later. I walked around the island so I could get behind the bird but it hopped around so it was facing me the whole time.
I stared at it and it stared back. I tilted my head and it cocked it's head to the side in response "why is it copying you?" Darren whispered yelled "To hell if I know. Just grab it while it's facing me" I whispered back. He looked horrified at the thought of touching it but slowly inched forward, bringing his hands out in front of him to try and grab it.
It turned it's head around, like an owl, and just stared at Darren until he backed away. Then it turned it's gaze back to me "Maybe if we leave the window open and go back to bed it'll be gone in the morning?" Darren suggested "And let all the bugs in? No thank you. We don't need Tyler to panic again because another "spider" got into the place" I whispered back in annoyance.
Darren rolled his eyes "Tyler's a coward" "and you aren't? You'r too scared to pick up a fucking bird. Wonder how you'll deal when I put a spider right next to your fucking head in your sleep" I hissed out. He glared in response "Well. Good night. Deal with the bird. I'll be sleeping. With the door LOCKED. So don't even think of putting anything next to my head" he growled out before walking out the kitchen.
He fucking walked out on me. The hell man.
I stared at the entrance to the kitchen in astonished horror until I heard a noise and looked down at the island to find that the bird was still staring at me, except it had gotten closer. I backed up and looked around for something to grab the bird with so it wouldn't attack me or poop all over the place while I try to get it out.
It hopped closer to the edge of the island and I moved back again. Why is it getting closer? It opened its wings and when I understood what it was gonna do I went to dive forward to catch it.....Fuck.
I watched the bird....crow? I watched it fly off the table and circle around the kitchen, luckily it kept it's beak shut but unfortunately it meant I couldn't catch it now.
It dove towards me causing me to bring my arms up to cover my face from the possibly incoming attack of the feathered monster. Yeah...It didn't go like that.
After I had brought my arms up, I felt something heavy on my fore arm, and peeking through my closed eyes I just saw the talons of the crow wrapped around my arm. I brought my arm down slowly and stared at it as I let out a silent screech.
I slowly, and as carefully as I could, started walking towards the entrance to the kitchen, keeping my eyes on it. As I got to the doorway I noticed that on his way back to his room, Darren had actually switched off the lights, which thankfully made it easier for me.
Slowly stepping through the doorway I kept my eyes on the crow, only glancing down to check my footing, earning a displeased squeak from the black chicken currently using my arm as a tree branch.
I brought my eyes back to it and it tilted it's head. Once on one side, once on the other, then back to the first side. What is it trying to do? Nothing obviously. It's just a damn stupid bird. Dafuq am I thinking? Magical talking Cuckoo's?
I could see the window approaching slowly but I kept my eyes on the stupid yellow-bellied sapsucker so it wouldn't get pissed off at me for not looking at it. Attention whore much. It just wouldn't break the eye contact. Although that kind of makes my job easier. And I'm also really hoping the ugly little peacock doesn't crap on me, or the carpet.
Reaching the window I started actually wondering how I would make sure the little Bustard wouldn't fly back in while I'm trying to close the window.
I slowly lowered my arm so it was at the same height as the window sill and started trying to nudge it out the window without letting it fly back inside. It finally jumped off my arm onto the window sill, still staring at me like I was a fucking bird seed, ready to be eaten. Listen up you little chicken, get the hell out of my dorm.
I glared at it and finally just muttered a 'fuck it' and grabbed it quickly so it couldn't fly back inside. It started screaming and I quickly through it right out the broken screen and swung the window closed as quickly as I could. I locked it, stared at the hole of the broken screen for a moment to see if it would try to fly back inside and finally dragged myself back to my room.
I walked in quietly, went into the bathroom and pulled my pajama off me, throwing it into my wash basket. I got into the shower to wash myself because we never know what kind if sickness that bird could have been carrying and could feel myself relax under the warm water.
I felt like I was slowly falling asleep standing up from how tired I still was, and the warmth of the water running down my back felt like I was lying in a warm bath, which was not helping with keeping me awake.
I felt my shoulder touch the shower wall and the cold snapped me back to consciousness. I quickly washed myself properly before I could pass out and turned the shower off. I grabbed a towel and wrapped myself up, leaving the bathroom after a few minutes of drying my feet as well as I could.
Walking back into my room I almost tripped on the way to my closet and a "shit" escaped my lips. I heard a noise to my right and froze. I heard my bed creak once from Freddy rolling onto his other side and once he stopped moving I relaxed my shoulders and went back to walking to my closet.
It was only about 1/4 filled up since I still hadn't completely unpacked. By the way 1/4 of my clothes is about three t-shirts, two jeans, one pajama things, one bra and a few underpants. And all my socks. I seriously don't give a shit. So what I barely have any clothes. Fight me....
Who the hell am I talking to....?
Back in pajamas I slowly walked back to my bed and had to roll Freddy back onto his other side so he's give me my spot back. I lay down and fell asleep almost as soon as my head hit the pillow, not paying attention to the noises currently appearing around me.
Noises....In my room...who..I opened my eyes and found myself completely in the dark. I frowned. There's no way. There's a little light that normally comes in through my curtains from the light on campus, how is it this dark?
I held my hand out in front of me and the second I felt something hard, like a wall, I pulled my hand back, surprised. There shouldn't be a wall there. If there was, I'd be lying on my other side "Freddy?" I squeaked out weakly. I brought my hand behind me and when I felt another wall I almost freaked out.
I stretched out my curled up legs but froze. Wall.....another wall. I started freaking out and quickly straightened my neck, feeling another wall with the top of my head. No. No. Not a box. No please. I quickly brought my hand up above me and when I felt the wall that was enclosing me in this I felt my breath stop. Start again. And speed up.
I started feeling all around me, only feeling more of the walls, where they connected, the corners. I'm trapped. I'm in a box. I'm trapped. It's closed. It's small. I'm stuck. Mom, Bee. Mom, help. I can't- I can't breath-I can't breath.
I started hyperventilating and brought my hands to my chest, unable to fill my lungs to their full capacity. I can't breath, I can't see, I can't move. I need to breath. Stop crying, you need to breath. Hailey, breath, you're fine.....I'm not fine. I'm gonna die. I'm stuck!
Please help.
