When we got to the park, I pulled on my hood and sat on a nearby bench. She walked over and sat next to me. I knew how weird it looked for me to be wearing a hood out here but vampires cant be outside during the day. I decided to go because cloudy weather is easier on me. Since I've been surviving without drinking from a human for so long, I am less effected by sun light.
"It's not raining, why are you wearing a hood?" She asked me peaking under my hood at me.
"Why did you want to skip?" I countered her question with another one trying to change the subject.
She clasped her hands together in her lap and I could see she was thinking about something. "Well... I've been watching you for a while. I know that sounds bad... but I guess I've just noticed you are sad almost every day. I felt... maybe you just need a friend. Someone to talk to."
I rolled my eyes. She doesn't know the half of it. I sighed. No. She doesn't. So I need to be nice to her. "Well, I do have friends. They just don't go to school with us."
"Are they..." She lowered her voice to a whisper, "Drop- outs?"
I tried not to laugh at that and instead asked, "Isn't skipping just as bad? And no. They don't go to school. They already graduated."
"So they are o-" She started to say but I interrupted her.
"I am friends with people I have things in common with. That's all" I glared down at my hands. So she is one of the type of people that judge people easily. Maybe getting close to her is a bad idea.
"I didn't mean to offend you. I have this thing where I don't really filter things before they come out of my mouth. It can get hard sometimes because I offend people without meaning too way to often." I looked at her out of the corner of my eye. She did look like she felt bad.
"We can't be friends." I said.
"Why?" She asked sadly. "Did I do something? I'm sorry if I did, I didn't mean to give you trouble. I'm just trying to make you feel better."
I sighed and sat up straight, facing her. "Look. There is something about me that I don't think you would like, nor would I want you to know because it is something that will put fear into anyone's heart if they knew."
"I doubt it's worse than my secret." She gave me a grim smile and squeezed her hand. "If I tell you my secret... Will you give me a chance?"
"It depends"
