A warm breeze could be felt passing through each wing. The sun shone exquisitely, and every ray made each building more splendorous at Sanctaria, the Holy Capital. Aglikos and Firstos having pleasant conversations. Young Gahruns training fiercely on the side of the streets and Tilkraos discussing with Sacrlies in a cheerful tone. Respect, joy, and happiness could be smelled everywhere on the air, sweet like a cherry blossom in spring. After 200 years of hard work of the Gaelhynes Dynasty, the Dragon race was finally reaping the true fruits of the peace.
It was mid-Holumnes and inhabitants were getting excited. This was the time when the new generation of descendants transcends into fully fledged Dragons. Males and females decide their future and what will they burden themselves with. This is the day that every young Dragon wishes to come true. It is a time of revelation, acceptance, and hopes. 103 young dragons were ready at the main Palace Gate and even at a fast glimpse, laughter, shrugs, and tears could be easily seen, but even if the feelings were different, all of them were ready, all …. but one.
Bartant was a very special youngster. He was not the smartest nor the strongest. He wasn't wise or skillful compared to others, but he had one very uncommon skill for a Dragon, he was witty, and at wit's end, he was able to get the extra mile anyone wasn’t willing to risk for. He wasn't a loose cannon but he was truly fearless. And he was late. And the trumpets began their chorus. Bartant listen quietly at home, the marvelous sounds like angel voices resounding in his ears, it felt like music was piercing directly into his mind. He felt astonished and cozy like he was sleeping. And suddenly he realized he was sleeping, and the trumpets were no dream. He realized he was late. He lived 10 minutes distance from the castle and he knew he needed 20 minutes to get there by feet. He was a young Anglik, he had no wings yet. Fast like a thunder, he got dressed with whatever he could find, and logically he was supposed to bring a few things with him, which were left spread along the house. Little did he know how hard things will become later. He quickly waddled to the door while getting dressed, and as soon as the light hit the entrance, a merchant transport being carried by a Hrutli was passing through. He quickly jumped onto the transport and begun to do the math: at the pace, the Hrutli was pulling the cart he would get 2 minutes earlier than required. He sat quietly at the edge of the cart and started checking his items. A compass, a torch, and a knife. He left the papyrus, the pen, the cloak and the blanket. Everything can be solved, he thought, but as soon as he was about to smirk, the transport stopped.
Bartant’s smile got quickly erased from his face, he knew he needed to act and fast. He made another quick calculation to assess where he was and how much time left he had exactly 6 minutes, but 10 were required running to the Gate. A light made him temporarily blind, he quickly regains his vision to realize it was the reflection of a ray, and only one thing had crystals as skin, a Vorupteros. He quickly jumped onto the cart, into the sidewall of a small house and climbed to the rooftop as fast as he could. He then jumped from roof to roof pursuing the Vorupteros. And during the pursuit, he knew he was happy, he was smiling, he felt free and that was everything the had ever wished for. And every step he did, he felt stronger, more powerful than before, strong enough that at the seventh roof he decided to try and catch the Voruptero’s leg. He closed his eyes. It was a coin toss, if he grabbed the leg he would be carried until the Merchant’s central, a one minute sprint to the gate, if he failed, he would break his ankles and would not be able to finish the Ascension. Thousands of thoughts traveled through his mind in a second, but suddenly, he feared not, he believed in himself, he believed that Lady Luck was on his side, and he opened his eyes. He could see the leg so close to him, and so, he stretched his arm as long as he could, and his fingertips felt the strong crystal. He got cut and felt pain, but despite it, he grasped with all his strength. Nothing was going to stop his dream from becoming true.
And so, Bartant flew directly to the Merchant’s central, and as everyone was used to, his landing wasn't deprived of any ruckus. He quickly dashed between the dragons wandering at the crowded Central just to barely make it on time before the unending glaring doors of the Castle gate.
