Flowing blonde hair and electrifying blue eyes, tall with slender legs and curves in all the right places, clear and smooth skin and full pink lips, naturally flushed cheeks with a smile that could melt any man's heart, she is perfect; the epitome of beauty. Katie Ridgley stole my heart over summer break. I, somehow, successfully got the girl to date me. Shocking, seeing as I am absolute shit with women, to the point that it's embarrassingly sad.
"You're freaking me out," Junior grumbles and actually places his notebook in front of my eyes. I frown at losing sight of Katie. "Stop that. It's weird."
I look to Gavin for any kind of help only to realize he hasn't a clue what Junior is talking about. Cocking a curious brow, and looking far too cool while doing it, the boy asks, "Stop what?"
Gavin begins examining where I had been looking earlier. I bite my lip, knowing the teasing is about to come because what else would a friend do when he finds your crush? Gavin gapes upon finding Katie is right where my eyes once were and looks to me. "Katie? You serious dude?"
"Why the tone of disbelief?"
"She's a girl though."
I punch both of my laughing friends, Gavin harder than Junior though seeing as he's the one who said it.
"Shut up," I grunt. "Just because I'm not a babe magnet like someone-" I glare to Gavin who purses his lips, trying to be cute but failing seeing as he looks like a duck. "Doesn't mean I'm gay."
He raises his hands in surrender. "Not my fault the ladies dig me. What can I say? Some of us are born with a natural advantage."
"I wonder if they'd still dig you if you didn't take an hour to prim yourself in the mornings," Junior grunts, finally, someone is helping me out here!
"Right! Like you'd be such a pretty boy without your hair gel." I tug at the obviously styled hair atop his head. Like a child, he swats my hands away, complaining about how I'll mess it up. I roll my eyes at him.
Once he finishes fixing what I didn't even mess up, Gavin says, "Hey, girls do their best dressing up in the mornings so obviously they appreciate a man who understands the struggle. You should try it sometime, Noah. Maybe a woman will finally notice you." He tilts his head in the direction of Katie, wiggling his eyebrows as he does.
"Actually, she already has," I say smugly, for the first time in my life.
Gavin's jaw drops in disbelief. I reach my leg across the aisle to kick him for looking so shocked. Ok, so I am terrible with girls but he doesn’t have to make it seem like it’s the end of the world! Before I can shout at him about his lack of faith in me he says, "Katie doesn't seem like your type."
"If this is another gay joke..."
Gavin smirks and, for a moment, I suspect a joke but he shakes his head. "She's Miss Popular, surrounded by people all the time, a social butterfly while you're..." He looks me up and down and waves his hand dismissively. "Not any of that."
"Thanks," I snort. What great friends I have. I’m going to make me a craigslist account and search for some new ones. These two are absolute shit.
What Gavin says is true though even if I rather not admit to it aloud. Katie and I met over summer break at a local concert. Junior had a cousin in the band and though they were pretty bad, we went anyway for shits and giggles. Katie, apparently, went because her friend loved them, why I don't know, but that's how we met. I didn't purposefully bring up the new love interest in my life to Gavin, which is why he didn't know about her until now. I already had Junior teasing me about it so I didn't want another. Anyways, the point is, Katie and I are pretty different.
While I tend to stick between Junior and Gavin, Katie is branched out. She's more of the type of girl with many friends that she's not necessarily close to rather than a few she is tight with. She prefers large social gatherings, while I'd rather spend my time at home with a couple friends. I have gone to a few events with Katie over the summer but they were never really my kind of thing. We're definitely in different circles, but that doesn't mean we can't get along!
"All he does now is talk about her," Junior says, breaking me from my thoughts.
"I do not!" But as always my protests are ignored. Can't someone pay attention to me for once? Damn.
Gavin chuckles, "Shocking to see the virgin get himself a smoking hot piece of ass like Katie."
"Don't call my girlfriend a smoking hot piece of ass."
Gavin howls with laughter after hearing me repeat him. He apologizes and rephrases it, "Sorry, it's shocking to see the virgin get himself a girl out of his league."
I scowl at my two so-called “friends” who are both snickering together. They are enjoying my pain too much and I make a mental note to never help them with anything ever again...not that they ever ask. But if they do, I won't help!
"What is up with this shit? As my friends you are meant to be proud of me," I hiss to the both of them, wildly flailing my arms in the air until I realize some people are staring wondering why exactly I'm flailing said arms. I quickly put them back at my side, a light blush now coating my cheeks. "And how come you call me a virgin like it's an insult? Sorry that some of us actually value women."
"I value them in bed," Gavin tacks on.
I stare at the boy in disgust. "Do you see those girls as anything other than an easy one night stand?"
"Uh...no," he replies matter-of-factly. "But do they see me as anything other than a one night stand either? Don't always make me out as the bad one when they are clearly only interested in the same thing."
I can't argue with that. Most girls who approach Gavin are interested in only one thing. They aren't interested in much of a relationship either but rather the ability to say they had slept with one of the hottest guys in school. Gavin knows this, which is probably why I've never actually seen the guy in a relationship. He gets laid and moves on to the next girl.
"Point taken." I sigh but that doesn't stop my disgusted look that Gavin attempts to shrug at innocently.
Our conversation is stopped when I am the one ignoring my friends for once since Katie is heading over here. Junior rolls his eyes while Gavin snickers at the blush that I know is forming on my face.
