Tuesday morning I find myself standing before Gavin, who is staring up at me from where he sits looking as if he is already aware of what I'm about to ask. Why do I say that? Simple, because he has that annoyingly smug expression that he wears whenever he knows something is up. His eyes are glistening in amusement. He is sitting with one leg over the other and his elbows on the desk with his hands gracefully intertwined.
Oh yeah, he definitely knows.
"To what do I owe the pleasure of your presence, Noah?" he purrs out my name, sending a shiver down my spine that I do my best to ignore.
I don't want to ask, really I don't. He has this look like he is going to eat me alive with his hazel eyes half-mast, coaxing me in like a moth to a flame. He is waiting patiently for the question, ready to tease me to the point of insanity. I know it's going to happen because Gavin never misses an opportunity to humiliate and embarrass me. He's an ass like that.
Everyone is right though. Gavin has a way with women. Although they know he's nothing more than a playboy they still wish to be in his presence. They call his name every chance they get and, somehow, even after sleeping with so many of the girls in school he is adored. There are rumors, obviously sent from girls who were not pleased with being a single night's entertainment, but most people ignore them choosing to rather learn the truth themselves. Have I mention how annoying he is? Because he is like…super fucking annoying. I hate pretty boys.
I take a deep breath; do my best to mentally prepare myself for the bombardment of insults and witty words that are heading my way. Working up all the courage I have, I mumble, "I need you to help me keep my girlfriend."
Gavin's smirk, if possible, grows exponentially in size to the point that it is positively evil, villainous is probably a better term for it. Hazel eyes dance with delight as he raises his head, appearing superior, in order to say with a hint of laughter in his voice, "I'm sorry, Noah, but I didn't quite catch that. What is it you wanted?"
This fucking asshole is enjoying this too much. "I need you to help me keep my girlfriend," I say a little louder this time.
"Sorry, still didn't quite catch that. A bit louder please." He holds his hand to his ear and leans towards me.
"Damn it, Gavin, help me keep my girlfriend!" I holler, and as he had planned, the entire class that has been waiting for class to start looks to me. My face burns in embarrassment while whispers and giggles pass throughout the entire room. My shoulders slump at the obvious words spoken about me, the guy shouting to another guy to help him keep his girlfriend.
Gavin leans back; putting his hands behind his head and has the audacity to say, "No thanks. I'd rather not."
"W-What? Why not!" I hiss, taking my seat across from the boy. Junior is walking through the door now, not seeming to care that the entire room is talking about his crazy best friend.
Gavin shrugs, looking away from me to outside the window with his signature grin. "Why should I? Learn yourself."
"G-G-Gavin! Man, come on. You know I can't keep a girl. They always break up with me and I don't know why. You're like the god of getting women. Help me out!" I plead, holding my hands before me and shaking them. Gavin is having the time of his life, watching me plead. This man is a sadist, I swear! Wait...does that make me a masochist for continuing to speak to him? Shit.
Junior is already passed out on his desk, ignoring my pain completely. Both of these guys are assholes. Why am I friends with them? Junior, who ignores my pain and Gavin, who causes it. I am in serious need for a change.
"That sounds like a personal problem," Gavin replies with a shrug. He has turned a bit now in order to face me, placing his elbow back on the desk in order to rest his chin against his fist.
"Gavin..." I groan. "Would it kill you to be nice for once?"
Gavin's nose scrunches in distaste. "What is this nice you speak of? Sounds like a disease."
For the next five minutes I beg with Gavin to spare me. He doesn't and I am left feeling utterly humiliated the rest of class seeing as everyone is still speaking of my outburst. He did it on purpose. I said he likes to humiliate me! It isn't until English that I feel much better when Katie makes her way to her seat beside me.
Gavin and Junior are yet again speaking of my "disobedience." I hear something about how apparently this is some kink of mine, making Junior jealous by speaking to women so we can have hot make up sex later. Katie, somehow, doesn't hear this so she stares at me in confusion when I spin around to growl at the two of them, "Stop talking like Junior and I are a married couple."
"No need to deny the truth, my love," Junior says, tickling my chin. I gag.
"Mom, we aren't kink shaming you. We're simply discussing your new hobby," Gavin chuckles. I raise my fist, shaking it at the both of them in what I hope to be a threatening manner. Neither of them are threatened so I sigh and turn my attention back to Katie.
"You have such good friends," Katie says, looking back to the guys. Junior doesn't pay her any mind but Gavin gives her a playful wink, making her giggle. If some other flirtatious guy did that I may have been mad but I don't feel I have to worry about Gavin. He may be an ass but he's never made a move on any of the girls Junior and I were interested in. I give him props for that.
"I wouldn't call them that," I sigh, thinking back to earlier today when Gavin humiliated me. "They're more like annoying leeches that I can't get away from."
"Like you really want to," Gavin says but I don't bother looking back at him. I know he's smirking because when isn't he smirking at me?
Katie laughs. "You're all just so close to be able to joke around with each other like. Not everyone has friends like that. You're lucky, Noah."
If by joke around she means torment then yes we're capable of tormenting each other. It's more like Junior and Gavin torturing me seeing as whenever I try to mess with them it seems to bounce right off them. I need to work on that. Become crueler, me! I wish to torment my friends as they do me!
