As he does that, I think back to the sad chuckle and sickening smile that is continuing to bother me. Normally, Gavin always replies with a sly comment or witty remark. Hearing him respond in a way that sounded like he agreed with me made me feel sick. I bite my lip, regretting what I had said earlier. I feel the urge to apologize, but Gavin played it off as a joke. I doubt he'd accept the apology but rather insist he was messing with me. I sigh and tell myself to forget about it.
Thankfully, we make it to the party before the guilt eats me alive. Gavin and I step out to look upon the home that we both know will be trashed within an hour. The lights are switching colors crazily within, music is blasting and through the windows I see bodies moving within. I look to Gavin, whose eyes are gleaming mischievously. He looks to me with his signature smirk and asks, "Ready?"
"No...not really, no," I reply in all honesty, feeling myself even step back towards Gavin's Jaguar but the boy stops me by gripping my wrist. My eyes shoot down to where we are attached, staring profusely at his cool hand that tugs me forward with ease.
"Come on, you've got this," he whispers against my ear. Quickly, I pull away with a flush, holding my hand against my ear that feels as if it's on fire. Gavin laughs at my reaction but says nothing and heads towards the front door where a guy is waiting with a cup full of, most likely, some alcoholic beverage.
I grumble and follow my friend, faking a smile to the doorman who all but forces the cup into my grasp. I look into the strange liquid, frowning immediately and setting it off to the side the moment I find a place.
"Is Katie already here?" Gavin shouts over the music. I'm practically glued to his back since the house is crowded and people are shoving. I don't want to lose the only person I know here before I even find Katie. Why are parties always in houses anyways? It’s freaking crowded!
I pull out my phone, shouting back, "I'll check!"
I text Katie to tell her that Gavin and I have arrived. Almost immediately I receive a reply from her saying that she's in the guest living room of this overly large house. I inform Gavin of this and he shrugs. The two of us go on a scavenger hunt for this 'guest living room'. Who even has a guest living room? That's dumb. Why is it a guest living room? Are only guests allowed to use it?
We find this guest living room after a few minutes of searching. I smile upon seeing the crazily waving blonde sitting on a couch with a few friends. Katie is beautiful as usual in a tight fitting blue dress that reaches just above her knees. Her hair is curled and pulled into a loose ponytail that rests over her shoulder with pieces of curls framing her face. Her lips are accentuated by her lipstick making them look even more luscious than they normally do.
Katie gets up when she sees us. She hugs Gavin first, which makes me frown momentarily, until she turns to me to not only hug me but place a lingering kiss to my lips. My eyes nearly pop out of my skull. I do my best to remain as composed as I can, which isn't very good seeing as the woman of my dreams kissed me. Gavin rolls his eyes beside me.
"You look ravishing this evening, Katie," Gavin says, giving the girl a once over. He turns his attention to her friends resting on the couch. "As do your friends, excuse me, as I introduce myself to them."
"You are such a dog, Gavin," Katie says to the boy with a slight giggle.
"You know a dog can be quite loyal should you treat him right," he replies with a wink. He heads towards the girls, turning back once to give me a thumbs up before turning his attention back to the giggling girls on the couch. I shake my head at him but smile.
I look back to Katie who is looking up at me with her beautiful blue eyes. "You look beautiful," I say to her. Her face breaks out into a smile.
"You’re quite handsome yourself," she says placing her hands on my chest. I pray she can't feel how fast my heart is beating. "Normally, I always see you in a tee and some jeans but you dressed up for me. How sweet."
Gavin, somehow hearing that, pops his head up to look at me. He points at me as if to say see I fucking told you she'd notice! I ignore him and reply to Katie, "I put effort into things on occasion."
She laughs and as the song changes insists on a dance. I try to say no, claiming that I cannot dance but she pleads cutely saying that she'll teach me. Eventually, I cave in to her puppy dog eyes and allow her to drag me to the make shift dance floor everyone has made. The girl throws her arms around my neck and brings herself flush against me while I begin mentally panicking wondering what in the hell I should do.
Wrap my arms around her? Put my hands on her hips? Fist bump like the other 80% of the guys here. Help me out someone. Where's Gavin when I need him? He's good at this kind of shit. There should be a class on how to dance in today's society. Do I wave my hips around frantically like everyone else or is it actually a dance that requires skill? Shit.
Somehow, during my mental breakdown, I have begun dancing. Katie laughs saying that I'm not as bad as I made myself out to be. Something tells me she's being nice about it but I don't push the subject. We dance for a while until Katie claims she is need of another drink. I follow the girl into the kitchen, looking about the house for Gavin. He's nowhere to be seen.
