When 1130 came I walked up to the lake and looked around. Might as well find somewhere to sit for now. I found a piece of beach wood and took a seat. The moon light glistened off the water as I looked out across the lake. The stars sparkled in the sky.
I sighed and looked over at Vrin. "Can I at least get some type of clue about what is going to happen?"
He rolled his eyes at me. "Just relax. Trust me. It's nothing bad at all."
I looked out anxiously at the water. I hope this is worth it...
There was a ripple in the water in front of us and Vrin straightened up and squeaked with excitement. I nudged him and he nodded.
A seals face surfaced in front of us. I squeaked and fell backwards. "Ah!"
The seal wobbled up to shore. "Hello. Sam was it?" Vrin said to the seal.
"What..." I said, confused.
The seal, or Sam I guess, bowed her head at Vrin. "You can show yourself now." He said gently to her with a smile. "We will look away." He said giving me a look.
We both turned away and I still tried to wrap my mind around what was happened. Was Vrin messing with me? Were they pulling a prank on me? It isn't funny if it is. I clenched my jaw.
"Hello." Sam said to me. "You can turn around now.."
We both turned around to face her. She had wrapped herself in what looked like a seal cloak. He skin? I blinked. "What are you?"
Vrin nudged me. "Don't be rude! Sam is a Selkie. She has the ability to become a Seal in water. I'm guessing you are from Ireland or Scotland?"
"Well actually we are called Selichs. But yes. I am originally from Orkney. My mother was also a Selich. But... she died giving birth to me. And I don't know who my father is since she left him before I was born. It's very common for Selich children to not know their parents." Sam explained.
So... she has no one here... "Who do you live with then?"
"I was found by an old couple when the were at the beach... They took me home and once they had enough money, they sent me here alone to live with some of their distant relatives. I've been looking for someone... Anyone I can tell my secret. Someone I can be myself around. I could tell... That you would probably understand. What it's like to be an outcast. Constantly having to hide who you are." She bit her lip and looked down. I could see tears building up In her eyes.
I walked up to her and put my hand on her arm. "I don't think that a vampire and a... Selich?" I probably butchered the name. "Can be friends. You still have blood flowing through your veins."
She glared at me. "I don't think you would like the taste of my blood. I have seal blood not human blood. It's the only reason I can stay in cold water for so long." She sighed and continued. "I just am looking for a friend. Because I don't like being alone."
I looked at her. "Well I think... I could do that." I smiled at her. "I am tired of being alone too." I looked over at Vrin. "I mean other than you guys."
He laughed. "I know what you mean."
Sam Smiled at me. "Thank you."
I smiled back. "Don't worry about it." My smile grew into a grin. "Want to go swimming?"
She grinned back. "Lets do it!"
