All of the stories in your collection were really cool, but the biologist inside me just had to comment on this one. I loved, loved, loved how you made a parallel between mammals overthrowing reptiles as the dominant form of vertebrate life and the demise of a kingdom. Extinction can hit anyone, no matter how mighty or untouchable they may seem. "I suppose we can't fight fate" indeed.
