"We were waiting for you." FDR said when I walked passed them. Ignoring him and 'The Jocks'. He shouted at his friends to meet them letter. Okay what just happened? I mean FDR just ditched his best friends to just walk. I stared at him in surprised. Ivan joined after he noticed us exiting the school and slipped his mobile in his jacket pocket. I stared at them weirdly not getting what they were getting at by doing all this!
"How was your day?" FDR stretched his arms with an amusing smile on his face. He looked back at his friends who were still laughing at Jordan. It showed on his face that he was already missing the goofs. Stupid boy, he should have just stayed back. It wasn’t like either of my brothers' companies was appreciated.
"Good," I answered.
"I heard you made new friends?" Ivan asked uncertainly his hands into his pocket and biting his lower lip. I looked at him warily, remembering this morning's outburst.
"Yes."
"Did you..."
Before Ivan could complete the sentence a car honk came from behind us. I saw a familiar white Nissan pulling beside us. We stopped on our track.
"Wylie my girl, want a ride?" Curls of red hair said rolling down the window. His face held grinning smile like he knows everything. Like a Cheshire cat, grinning ear to ear. He was wearing his PJs as always. This time some spaceships on it, maybe star wars. He comes to meet me in that attire every time.
"I am fine." I started to walk again shrugging.
"You know what I did this summer?" He asked with excitement driving beside me on the road while I continued walking like there wasn’t some lunatic talking to me.
"Not interested Asher. Go away." I fasten my steps.
"So I went to visit my grandparents. And they were really happy to finally see me. I told them about you giving me lecture how my grandparents would be glad to see me there." He was driving next to me, FDR and Ivan were watching us in confusion, still standing on one spot.
"I didn't lecture you. I just simply told you that your parents' divorce won't do anything to your relationship with your grandparents." I waved my hands in the air.
"Still. Anyways when I was there they told me about this sushi dish and it was amazing..." And his tale about his summer went on. I nodded now and then. It wasn't new for me.
Asher- the boy who was driving beside me and giving the information about his summer was my not-so-invited-bodyguard until my house came. It was amazing how one meeting him cause me this much trouble. And for him I am his best friend; he's mine too- zip your lips no one's telling him that.
He wasn't in my school or in any. He was homeschooling. One year ago before summer started I went to the mall. I was checking some sunglasses when I saw Asher sitting on the cash register. He didn't even realize some boys came in and stole glasses and other things. I knocked on the wood table to gain his attention from his lala word. He jerked his head up and stared at me.
"Here," I said putting five sunglasses on the wooden table.
"You would have easily stolen it like others." He said still looking sad. So he did notice them.
"How much?" I asked. I was already late. It was getting darker outside.
"Three months." I stared him in confusion. What in the world? "My mother and father both cheating on each other without any care of me." He let out a frustrated groan.
"You take cash?" I asked again; hoping he will get the idea that I am not interested in his sad story.
"No, they didn't cheat for money. They weren't happy with each other." He said putting his elbow on the desk and his head on hand looking at me curiously.
"You accept the card?" I put out the silver card from my pocket.
"I remember their wedding card. It was beautiful; pink hearts everywhere and their name written in silver cursive. It was beautiful." My mouth hanged open at him. The boy was insane can't he see I am not giving him any advice.
"So can you give me a bag for this glasses?" I asked again. Hope this time he understands. A man came and set on the chair, looking at us but didn't bother to come and help me or can say rescue me from this redhead.
"My dad used to give my mother gifts but suddenly he stopped and mom wasn't affected that dad is going away from us slowly." He started to punch some button and slipped my glasses into a paper bag. I paid him and exited. But boy he was following me. I got really scared that some strange boy was after me, maybe he was a psychopath. He then drove while I walked. Just like today, he rambled but that time his issues. When my house came he honked. I was little wary to show him my house but I didn’t know what to do at that time. I thought if he pulled anything I can at least count on Ivan to hear my screams.
"You go to Redwood?" He had asked me when I turned to him.
"Everyone goes there," I said in duh-tone. Okay, it was a lie, I just don't have really you can say a good relationship to start with other two schools. All three school in this town hates each other because of some past issues with the founders.
"I am homeschooling. I don't know if there is any other school, so just shot a guess." He said scratching his red neck nervously.
"Do you know you are weird?" I said out of nowhere and covered my mouth with my hands.
"I know." He smiled then started the engine. "I will see you tomorrow at your school." Then he drove off. I didn't think he will actually come next day but to my surprise, he came. From then he is doing this every day; driving beside me from my school to my house. He asks every day if he can give me a lift and I decline every time he asks. It’s been more than ten months now, I think.
"Stop," FDR said in annoyance breaking my cycle of thoughts. I stopped on my track and Asher did same stopping his engine.
"Who's this guy?" He asked pointing at Asher.
"I am Asher. Wylie's friend slash bodyguard." He waved his hand like little kid. I chuckled at him.
"Why I never heard about you then?" FDR crossed his arms over his chest, which made Asher little scared because of FDR was standing next to Ivan and let me tell you Ivan is really intense. Ivan was looking furious.
"Wylie you didn't tell them about me? I am feeling hurt." Asher said sobbing. Good actor.
"It's no one's business," I said turning around and walking. I heard Asher's car roar and in a second he was again driving next to me.
"Wait Wylie. At least tell us now." Ivan said jogging next to me.
"Fine, he is Asher. He once helped me from some street psycho. And now he thinks it's his job to make sure I go safely home." I said. And it was true. Asher was late one day and I stayed late at school too; it was dark and the sun was vanishing when I decided to go home. That day suddenly some creepy man came and started to ask me for money. That day Asher came from nowhere and bitted him. Still, I walked and Asher was so furious that day.
"What? When? How?" Ivan asked. His furious expression turning into guilt. Okay, so I can describe the man from head to toe. Ivan, he kinda knows every bad guy in this town so finding about some street or you can say ally robber will be child's play for him. And I am sure he will do something to him and then Ivan can be in big trouble with the police if he hurts him too much.
"Answer for all three- none of your business." I continued my walk. After that everything went silent. I was feeling bad; I should just talk to them once. Nicely. But I can't gather courage. When the stony road came to our house I asked Asher to go.
"No way I am leaving you. Last time I checked you were still a frightened kitten." He laughed.
