Kato didn't dream of anything but he had the distinct feeling of having his breathing cut off and had to open his mouth in order to breath. As he was slowly regaining consciousness, he felt his nose being pinched together and jerked his head away, fluttering open his eyes.
He had to blink rapidly before he could see Seth hovering over him with his hand in the air and his fingers making a pinching motion. From this close, he could see the swirls in his horns were a dark purple that blended with the black. "Good morning." He said, smirking. "Time to get up."
Yawning, he shifted out from under the covers and sat up. "Good morning." He muttered dazedly, gazing at him. That probably had to be the first time he'd slept so well and he really wanted to fall back to sleep.
"Are you hungry?" Seth asked, waving a white box in front of his face. "I went out and got some breakfast for you."
He blinked and looked at it before looking back up at him. "What about you?" He didn't think it was right to eat without him eating as well.
"I don't have to eat." He opened the box and lifted a glazed donut. "I heard these were a breakfast food humans eat." He turned and eyed him. "Are these even any good?" He handed it over with a raise of an eyebrow. "I mean it just looks like bread to me..."
Kato carefully took hold of it. "Well, just because you don't have to doesn't mean you can't right? I have a poor appetite so you can try it if you want." He smiled and took a bite, letting the delicious taste fill his mouth. He hadn't had something this good in a while either.
Seth turned to the box and eyed it. "I don't know..." He turned back to see Kato smiling and raising an eyebrow which made him stiffen. "Fine." He pouted and took one out. He stared at it for a moment before taking a bite, his eyes going wide as he stared at it with a new interest. "But it's just glazed bread..." He muttered once he'd swallowed.
"I'm not sure how they make them, but because I cook, I can guess it's some kind of special recipe." He took another bite and leaned against the wall, looking up at the ceiling light.
"You... cook?" Seth wondered aloud. When he looked back down, he'd realized that Seth had devoured the donut and a little piece of glazing rested on his chin.
"Um, yeah." He leaned forward, hesitantly, and used his thumb to wipe it away, surprising him. "Sorry, had a little something there." He muttered, leaning back and blushing. "Anyways, yeah, I cook. I'm not the best but I had to learn because Roger kept making requests that I couldn't follow which got me in trouble." He shrugged and finished off his donut, aware that he was being watched.
"Well, maybe you can cook something someday. Anything you want and on your own terms." That made him look up. Seth was watching him carefully like he was assessing something.
"Maybe..." He muttered. He hadn't thought of that. It felt weird to know he could do such a thing without worry.
"Do you want to know about your father?" Seth asked, his voice low.
He turned and watched him. "There's been something on my mind since you told me he died. Demons can live forever right?" When he nodded, Kato continued. "Then how can a demon who's lived for a thousand years possibly die now?"
"That's a... very good question." Seth chuckled softly. "Your father, his Majesty, ran away before he died. He'd been doing that for a couple years; where he'd mysteriously go missing and turn up the next day smiling like nothing happened." He smiled. "He's the only other demon I couldn't read. Though I could tell my charm worked because whenever I smirked, he'd swoon. He was more of a flirt then I was, even at his old age." He laughed, remembering. "You're nothing like him, except for your looks." He eyed him and he pressed his lips together. "Though even that is barely present. Anyway, the last time he went up, an angel caught him. It was strange because he'd never lost to an angel, but this one... She had a sword. I've never seen anything like it. She was strong too. When I... When I tried to save him... It was too late. That sword killed your father and I couldn't do anything to stop it." He bowed his head in guilt, his hands folding in his lap.
He blames himself, Kato thought, reaching over and placing a hand over his. He hadn't realized it, but he'd stopped breathing while Seth spoke. "It's not your fault, Seth."
He turned, looking at him. "Yes, it is." His eyes looked dull and withered and it made him look older than normal. Something inside him tightened and he softened. He didn't want him to look like that. Ever.
"How could it possibly be your fault?" When Seth tried to speak, he cut him off. "He made the decision to go off on his own. You can't know where he is 24/7." He smiled, trying to lighten him up. "Okay?"
"Okay..." He looked back down at his hands but his eyes were still dull.
Thinking, he crawled over and sat close enough that their shoulders were touching. "I can tell you cared. That's enough for me." He nudged him playfully and he turned to see Seth watching him. "I mean, look at you. You're miserable. That's supposed to be my job." He pouted and a smile grew on Seth's lips.
"Looks like it was your turn to cheer me up." He said with a smirk that made him grin. An actual, genuine grin. There were so many things he hadn't felt in such a long time and Seth was making him feel them.
"Yeah, well, consider it payback." They laughed and sat there in comfortable silence for a moment.
"You've lived around here for a while, yes? How about taking me around for a look at some of your favorite places?" Seth asked, leaning forward.
"Um... I lived in the apartment, yes. But I only know where the school, the library, and the grocery stores are." He pinched his hair between his fingers. He wasn't allowed out unless there was a good reason for it so he was only familiar with places on routes he took. "Why would you want to know that anyway?"
"Well, if I'm going to teach you, I must know you." He winked. "So take me out on a date. Maybe we can find a new place?"
A blush spread through his cheeks. "A-a what?" He stammered before clearing his throat and clearing his head. He's just teasing, he thought firmly. "F-fine." He muttered, looking away.
"That's the spirit!" He stood and stretched.
Kato watched in bewilderment as his tail and horns slowly disappeared. "How did you...?" He trailed off, stunned.
"Oh, that," Seth smirked as he leaned forward and cupped his cheek. "Pretty cool huh?"
He removed his hand and blinked. "Good to know I'm not as ignorant as I thought I was." He thought he'd just overlooked the fact he had horns and a tail, but in reality, he'd put them away. How sneaky.
He rolled his eyes and stood straight again. "When will I be able to impress you?"
"Impress me?" He wondered aloud. "Now why would you want to do that?" Sometimes he just couldn't understand this man. There was nothing to gain from impressing him, was there?
"No reason." He smirked and winked. It was like his signature move; something to use when he wanted people to swoon over him. Not today mister.
"Well alright." He stood and grabbed his backpack. "I'm going to change. I'll be right back."
"In the bathroom? Why? There's room right here." He said, putting his hands in his pockets and tilting his head. "Unless you're embarrassed?" He wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.
"No, I just don't like to change in front of people." He blushed and walked over to the door. "Old habit."
"I'm not people, I'm Seth." He called and Kato smiled, walking in and closing the door. He was oddly right about that.
