After quickly getting changed into his only other pair of clothes, a plain faded blue t-shirt and pants that barely kept from falling off his hips, he walked out and put on his shoes. "Ready." He muttered while thinking about the dirty clothes in his bag and how he was going to wash them.
"Good!" Seth didn't change clothes but it didn't really seem like he needed to. Instead, he reached forward and wrapped his arm around his shoulder. "Let's act like a couple and walk down the street swooning over each other." He teased, bringing his face down beside his own.
"No thank you." He chuckled and twisted out of his arm. He felt strangely good today. Maybe it was a phase?
Laughing with him, he opened the door and bowed. "After you." He smirked.
"Quit treating me like a girl." He walked over with the roll of his eyes.
"But that's no fun..." He pouted and closed the door. Outside, the feeling of the morning was in the air. It was nearing summertime so the weather was nice and warm. The sky was clear of any clouds and it was sunny.
They walked silently down one street, looking for anything that caught their eye. It was fairly hard to find a decent sight in this part of town but it wasn't impossible.
"Isn't that the library?" Seth asked from behind him and he turned. There stood the library he often went to whenever he could find a chance. The building itself was small and the walls had graffiti all over it, making it look anything but a building of knowledge. The sign that dangled above the door and said "Library" in messy writing was the only thing that told them otherwise.
"Yeah, it is." He looked at him. "Why?"
Without responding, he walked in.
Once again left sputtering in confusion, Kato jogged after him. When he entered, the scent of cigarette smoke met his nose and he wrinkled it. A line of shelves lined the floors and the familiar Mr. Greshing sat in his rolling chair, reading a book with his reading glasses threatening to fall off his nose. When he spotted Kato, he smiled.
"So this is the library you like?" Seth asked loudly from one of the rows where he couldn't see.
"That a friend of yours?" Mr. Greshing whispered, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, I'm sorry." He whispered back. "It seems he hasn't been to a library before."
He jogged over to where Seth was holding a book and examining its cover. "Seth! Shh! This is a library!" He whispered, putting his finger to his lips to emphasize.
"Oh, sorry. Didn't think that rule applied here." He whispered back while putting the book away. "Do you really spend time here?"
"Not often, but yes." He walked up next to him and examined the books he was looking at. They were in the fantasy section and it seemed that he had taken an interest in some books about demons. "It's quiet here and they've got a nice selection of books." He smiled as he pulled one of his favorites out. "I haven't been here in a couple months..." He muttered to himself when putting it back.
"Why not?" Seth poked his cheeks and he turned to see him smirking, making him think that if he had a dime for every time he smirked, he'd eventually be rich.
Shrugging, he lifted his hands above his head and stretched. "Never had time, I guess."
"We'll come back here soon to relax. This may be the perfect chance to study for your world. I was fairly familiar with it before all the technology that the humans keep inventing popped up. Now it's like I barely know this place." Seth muttered, crossing his arms and puffing out his cheeks. "I mean, people are equal now, but..." He tapped his fingers on his arm. "I feel like people are becoming more stupid."
"Well, that makes me curious about your age.... But I get what you mean." Kato placed his hands on his hips, looking at the shelves without really looking at them. "Almost every kid at school has some kind of piece of technology and they're always... talking about it. They're always focused on it. I see a group hanging out together, but instead of talking, they're texting." He rolled his eyes. "I personally don't understand what's so amusing about texting. I mean... the person is on the opposite side of the room. Walk over there. It's that simple." He chuckled and shook his head. "I've never been interested in people in general so I don't need phones or anything of the like."
"I'm over a hundred." Kato blinked in surprise and Seth continued. "I can see that though. So peoples' minds are glued to their... phones?" He sighed. "Glad you didn't turn out that way otherwise I'd be lonely." He pouted and Kato laughed, smiling.
"Yeah? Well, you don't have to worry about that." He grinned once again.
"Oh yeah?" Seth walked over and placed his hand beside his head on the bookshelf. "Are you saying you'd prefer me over technology?" He was still smirking, his eyes narrowing. There was something in them he couldn't detect.
"Yes," he blushed and ducked under his arm, walking out from the shelves. For some odd reason, his heart was pounding and he had to wait until it calmed down before turning to face him.
Seth's hands were in his pockets and his head was tilted. "Is there something you prefer over me?"
He had to think about that. Out of everything he knew, he couldn't think of anything. "No. Not that I know of anyways." He looked at him carefully. "Why do you ask?"
"No reason." He walked passed him and waved at Mr. Greshing who smiled back and watched him with an interest that was rare. But of course, it was probably Seth's charm.
"Alright." He walked up to him and they both exited.
They walked down the street for most of the day, stopping at random sights and talking about random things. All-in-all, it was an eventful and relaxing day away from his past. He enjoyed it greatly.
On their way home, they walked in comfortable silence before he thought of something. "Do you think..." Seth turned to look at him. "That I can be a good ruler someday?" He looked down at his feet, thinking. "I mean... I'm not exactly the leading type..." He'd always been the quiet one during group projects; the one that stood back and let them do the work while he secretly criticized them in his head. How was a boy like that supposed to lead the demons?
"That depends on your resolve." He said simply.
"My resolve?" He wondered aloud.
"Yeah. How willing you are to become ruler. Sure, you might have doubts now, but maybe as I teach you, you'll see that ruling isn't that bad. Sure, it'll be hard. But it's needed or this world will fall to war." When Kato looked up at him, he was crossing his arms and staring ahead. "But if there's one thing I know, it's that you won't be alone." He turned and smirked. "I'll be there."
A slight blush colored his cheeks. "Hopefully so." He smiled at the thought of Seth staying by his side for years to come. It made his heart stutter.
They continued to walk on, the sun starting to set and the sky turned different colors. People were walking home and the alleyways were filled with darkness. He wasn't paying much attention to them until he felt something wrap around his arm and tug him in, slamming him into the wall of the alley and making him gasp in pain.
"Kato!" Seth yelled, entering.
Focusing his vision, he looked up to see what grabbed him and there stood a woman. The woman had hair as white as snow and dull grey eyes. Her skin was pale but she was unnaturally beautiful. She wore a flowing white shirt with matching skinny jeans.
"Hello." She said, taking a step forward. Her voice was smooth, even smoother then Seth's. He didn't like it. "I heard you're affiliated with Lucifer and so I'm here to eliminate you, by order of the higher angels." Wings sprouted from her back, white and fluffy with feathers. A sword appeared in her hand, covered completely in a white light. "Die, evil-doer." And she charged.
