Kato sucked in a breath, his chest and back aching from the contact of the wall. The woman in front of him pointed the sword at him before pushing off the ground, heading straight for him.
Closing his eyes, he waited for impact, his heart racing. But when none came and he instead heard the grunt of a familiar voice, he opened his eyes. In front of him stood Seth, the point of the white sword protruding from his back, blood dripping off its surface.
"Seth?" His voice sounded small. His eyes were wide as he watched him slide off the sword and onto the ground in front of him. "No..." He reached forward, turning him so he could see his face.
Seth was gasping for air, his hand clutching the wound he had. There was a bright white light spreading from it, like some kind of virus. His face was pinched from pain and he was beginning to turn pale.
"A bug got in the way." The woman said, swiping the sword through the air to get some of his blood off. "Filthy."
Carefully, he placed his hand on his wound, the pain from the wall forgotten and instead, he focused on trying to stop the bleeding. He looked into Seth's eyes. "I-it's okay. I'll... I'll stop the bleeding..." He whispered, resisting the urge to cry. "You'll be okay." His voice cracked.
"R-run..." His voice gurgled and blood spewed from his mouth.
"No." He looked up at the woman who watched silently.
When she caught his eye, she tilted her head. "Child. Who are you?" She squinted at him. "You've got a familiar aura surrounding you."
"Stay away." He said, hovering over Seth protectively. He wouldn't let this angel take away the one person he cared about. He'd protect him with his life.
"My job is to destroy you." She said, lifting the sword. "I'll do my job without fail."
Then she swung. He knew he had to do something or Seth would die. He had to do something. So he lifted his hand. He didn't know what he was doing, but he needed to do it. That was when his body turned ice cold before feeling like he was on fire. That feeling flowed through him and into his palm, taking the form of a sword.
The white sword clashed with it, stopping as it struggled to push past. He had to use his other hand to keep himself from dropping it. The sword he now wielded was on fire. But it was changing colors. It was turning red, green, blue, and even orange.
The woman stared at it. "You can't be... his child?" She looked him in the eyes, wiping the surprise from her face. "You're the Demon King's child, aren't you?" She pushed down harder and he felt himself beginning to sweat as the fire licked his hand. He was surprised it wasn't burning him. "I'll kill you the same way I killed your father."
His eyes widened. So she was the angel that killed my father? He thought in utter astonishment.
She lifted her sword away and brought it back down. But before their swords clashed, another voice interfered. "Put the sword away, Gabriel." They both looked up onto the roof of one side of the alley where another angel stood, his wings folding behind his back. He looked exactly like the woman but with male features. "Retreat at once."
"But-" She started before he raised his hand.
"This is new information that we need to report. Leave him be for the time being and return home with me immediately." His eyes turned to Kato for a moment, something gleaming in them. Almost like recognition.
"Yes, sir." She flapped her wings and kicked off the ground into the air. Before she disappeared over the roof, she looked back. "I'll get you next time, you poor soul." And she was gone along with the man.
He sat there for a moment, stunned and staring at the roof, waiting to see if they'd return. But coughing brought him out of his thoughts and back down to Seth, whose eyes were half-way closed and glazed over.
"Seth!" He cupped his cheek. "Hey, stay awake!" He looked at his wound. The white light was spreading all over his chest and started on his neck.
He put his hands on his chest, thinking quickly. He knew he was a quick healer, so maybe if he channeled that through him, he could stop whatever was happening and stop the bleeding. If it would help him, even a little bit, he would do it.
So he concentrated on first himself. He knew he felt that sizzling power before, so if he could find it again... There it was. The ice cold feeling. He somehow knew that that was his healing ability. He could feel the cold yet warming presence within it. Now he concentrated on Seth. Concentrated on giving him that sizzling power.
He was forced to close his eyes and tune out the world to do it, but when he opened them, he saw the white light fading backward before completely disappearing. His wound slowly did the same, the gaping hole in his stomach closing, leaving only the torn clothing as evidence it even happened.
Smiling, he looked into Seth's face, but his eyes were closed. He sat there for a moment, dread filling his bones, before leaning down and pressing his ear to his chest. He waited for a moment until he could hear the soft beating of his heart. Relief washed over him and he stood, thinking. They were already on their way back so they were fairly close to the motel. He could try and carry him back, though it'd be difficult because there's no doubt he was heavy. If anyone asked about what happened, he'd say he'd gotten drunk and passed out.
Deciding that was a good idea, he reached down and looped Seth's arm across his shoulder, struggling to lift his body off the ground. It took a lot of grunt work but he finally managed it.
Then he walked at a devastatingly slow pace, Seth dangling off his side and his weakening body struggling to keep upright. Whatever he did, it exhausted him.
By the time he managed to reach the motel, it was pitch black out. Clouds had littered the sky, covering the stars and moon so the only thing lighting his path were the street lamps and glowing signs.
He had to rummage through Seth's pockets to find the key and when they entered, he laid him on the bed. Not knowing what to do, he sat beside him, his feet dangling off the bed and his hand holding carefully onto his.
He made sure to keep watch on his breathing and often had to feel for a heartbeat in case he died in his sleep. If there was one thing Kato was afraid of, it was losing him. He'd only known him for a little over a day and he was already emotionally attached. It baffled him. But he didn't dislike it.

For three hours, Kato sat beside Seth on the bed, holding his hand in his own and thinking; hoping he'd wake up and worrying that he might not. He was frightened. He didn't know what to do or if there was something he could do.
So he looked at his hand, resisting the urge to cry. He'd never felt so miserable. So hopeless.
Then the hand he cradled moved, closing over his. He blinked at it before turning and looking into the familiar dark brown eyes he missed. "Seth...?" He whispered, his eyes wide.
"Why hello there Kato." He smirked, making his heart begin to pound and his breath hitching.
Slowly, Kato put both of his hands on the bed beside his head and looked down at him from above, searching his face. "Are... are you alright?" His voice sounded so small, he could barely hear it himself.
"Yes, I'm fine." Seth stared up at him, confused. "What's wrong?"
He couldn't hold it in anymore. The tears just started to fall. "I thought... I thought I'd lost you..." He whispered, his vision going blurry. "I thought I'd lost you forever."
"I'm right here, thanks to you. I know what you did." He smiled, raising an eyebrow. "I'm fine."
"I'm sorry." He sobbed. "It's my fault you got hurt." He pressed his lips together, looking into his eyes.
"No, it's the angel's fault. Not yours." He shook his head.
"But it is!" His voice was rising and he couldn't help it. "She was after me and you got hurt because of it! I don't know what I'd do if I lost you, Seth! I care about you, dammit!"
Seth gripped his wrist and flipped them over so he was on top. "Kato, you're not the only one." He bent down so their faces were inches apart. "I thought I'd never see you again as well. At first, I thought I'd die for you when the time comes. But then, just now, I felt angry because I couldn't be with you. The one time I gave a shit about somebody else and they were taken away." He smirked. "You do wondrous things to me, you know. You're shy yet snappy and you don't fall for my charm when I try using it. I like that. I like you, Kato. So don't blame yourself because of what happened. Blame the angels. Who gives a shit about them anyway? We're here right now and there's nothing they can do about it."
"Seth..." Kato looked into his eyes, his hands coming up and laying on his chest. "Please, don't go anywhere. Don't leave me." He sobbed.
"I'm not going anywhere. But you don't leave me either." He brought his face closer, tilting his head so his lips were right above his own. "You're the only thing I want in this damn world." Then their lips connected.
Kato laid there for a second, stunned. But then his hands trailed up his chest and around his neck, bringing him closer. He kissed back, their lips moving in sync.
Seth smirked, his hands trailing up and down his sides and sending tingles down his spine. When he opened his mouth to get some air, Seth took advantage and stuck his tongue inside. His taste filled his mouth as they kissed, and it instantly became his favorite flavor. He'd never tasted anything like it. It was sweet yet kind of salty.
When they finally broke apart, Kato stared up at him, panting. His first kiss was just stolen by this man and he totally enjoyed it.
Seth cupped his cheek and smirked. "I've been wanting to do that for a while now." He winked and a blush filled his cheeks. Leaning forward, he whispered in his ear. "I love you, Kato Glen."
A shudder ran down his spine and he smiled. "I love you too, Seth." Then they were kissing again, less eager than before and yet still so thrilling.
"You should probably take a shower," Seth said when they'd broken off the second time. "Best to get the dirt off." He smirked and Kato `nodded. "Maybe I'll even join you." That made him blush incredibly hard.
"T-that's alright..." He muttered, looking away. No way. If they did something like that, who knew what he might start doing.
"Fine fine. Maybe next time." He laughed and stood up so he could get up. But as Kato stood, it was like he lost feeling throughout his entire body and he fell limp against Seth, who caught him in confusion. "Whoa! Kato?"
A shudder passed through him and he closed his eyes, sucking in a breath. He felt hot and he was sweating. He couldn't breathe. His body hurt.
"Damn!" Seth picked him up bridal style and laid him on the bed, looking into his eyes. "Hey, it's alright. It's probably an aftereffect of what happened. Your body isn't used to the power you have. Even though that wasn't your full potential, it'll take some time to recover." He smiled nervously. "Breath. You're alright."
He blinked rapidly as white dots spotted his vision and he sucked in another breath. "S-so... hot..." He muttered, curling up on his side as he shuddered again.
"Just relax." He sat down next to him and rubbed his back. "Sleep for now. I'll be right here when you wake up." He smiled and bent down, kissing his forehead. "It'll pass. You just have to relax."
His eyes drooped and he forced his muscles to relax, trying to level his breathing. Closing his eyes, he suddenly felt cold and began to shiver. He felt himself being lifted and then something fluffy was placed on him. He focused on his breathing and the feel of Seth's hand as it rubbed his back before he fell into another deep sleep.
