Kato slowly opened his eyes, blinking to clear his vision. He'd finally managed to force himself awake, thank goodness.
"Good morning, Kitty." He heard Seth say, though his voice sounded small with relief.
He slowly moved his limps and shifted, sitting up. "Seth...?" He croaked, looking at him. Whatever was in him was still there and he was slowly fighting it off.
Seth cupped his cheek and he looked into his brown eyes. They were sparkly and narrowed. "Hey there."
"He woke up rather quickly for how much we drugged him." Another voice said and he stiffened, looking behind him at a man who sat leaning back in a chair. He was glaring at them fiercely. "You're half-human, child?" He asked. It was the cashier.
Kato blinked and nodded slowly, furrowing his eyebrows and looking at Seth who sighed. "My bad."
That was a little funny and made him chuckle which surprised Seth. "S-sorry," he stammered, leaning against his chest. "I'm still a little out of it."
"It's fine. I'm just happy you woke up." Seth ran his hand up and down his back.
He pouted. "Our date was ruined..." He muttered.
"Yeah, I'm sorry. I should've known this would happen."
"Are you guys done?" The man asked and Kato looked carefully at him. "I'm going to have to say this. If you're truly half demon, we need to keep you for research. And since you're connected to this other demon, we'll keep him locked up."
"First off, I won't allow that." He said, regaining some of his strength as he put his legs over the edge of the couch and between Seth's. "Second, who are you anyway? What's going on?"
"Like you can tell me no, boy." The man snarled before regaining his composure. "Name's Richard Harvey." He said, his chin jerking up stubbornly. "What about you?"
"Don't tell him your name," Seth muttered under his breath.
"Sorry, Richard, but I'll have to pass on giving my own name." He shifted his eyes away. "I know it's rude. Sorry." He winced at having repeated himself.
Richard rolled his eyes. "You're certainly one curious kid." He smiled. "So the Demon King's dead?" He glowered. "I'd say good riddance if it weren't for the fact that I wanted to kill him myself."
Kato flinched back. "Why would you want to do that?" He asked before glaring. "He didn't deserve to die just because you labeled him bad. All living creatures deserve a chance but you guys and the angels just had to give him a name and shun him, huh?"
The man blinked at him. "Are you siding with the Demon King?"
"Yeah, I am." He straightened and Seth gave him a warning with his eyes. "He may have done some bad things in his time, but who hasn't? We all are sinners in our own ways."
The man shot up. "That man killed hundreds of people!"
"And I'll bet you've killed hundreds of demons!" He retorted, crossing his arms. "And I'm not over here cursing you to death!"
"I should've told you my Kitty has some fire in him," Seth said with a laugh.
Kato glared at him and he smirked in response. "Not helping."
"Aww." Seth slithered up and kissed him, whispering against his lips. "Careful. Don't get him too riled up and don't give away who you really are." And he kissed him.
"Alright." He muttered back, smiling into the kiss.
A cough made them break apart and Kato blushed, looking at the man who looked at them with confusion before looking down at his hands. "So, uh, um. Yeah. So that's that. No killing things. It's... cruel..."
"What's cruel is the fact that you're on a demon's side." He snarled.
"And what side am I supposed to be on, exactly?" Kato raised an eyebrow. "I'm a half demon child, remember? And besides, what right do you have to say who's good and bad? You don't even give demons a chance to show you their good side." He ran his hands through Seth's hair.
"Boss! I've had enough of this!" A man stepped forward. It was the big one from outside of the restaurant. "Kill the demon and be done with it!" He pointed a rifle at Seth.
"Stop it," Richard said, holding up his hand.
But the man snarled and shot the gun anyway. Kato didn't even have time to react as he was blasted across the floor and out the window.
"Seth!" Kato screeched, jumping off the couch and toward the window. Seth was hanging onto the window pane, barely holding on. "I'll help you up!" He said, his voice cracking as he gripped his wrist and tugged.
"Whoa. They have some epic guns." Seth gasped, reaching up with his other hand to grab the pane.
He tugged with all his might, slowly pulling him up. His back started to ache and his muscles bunched together but he ignored it, successfully pulling Seth back inside.
They ended up jumbled together on the floor, panting. "Are you alright?" Kato asked, looking him up and down. His clothes had holes but he couldn't see any blood or blisters.
"I'm fine. Felt more like a large gust of wind." He smiled but Kato didn't. His back was hurting a lot more, like having sore muscles.
"Anyone else who hurts Seth will have to deal with me." He growled, his voice low as he turned and brought his hand out, his sword growing in his hand. Richard and the man stared at it in bewilderment. "I don't want to hurt anybody but I won't stand by and let you hurt my lover."
The door to the room burst open, startling all the men as Annie and Henry hurdled in, their swords out. "Highness!" Annie called out, dashing over and standing between them and the men. "We saw Seth hanging out of the window. Quite the confusing sight. Are you alright?"
"Highness?" Richard muttered, looking at Kato more closely. "What's this about?"
"Shut it human!" Henry said, pointing the sword in his face. "What have you done to his Highness and Seth?"
"Henry!" Kato yelled. "Don't hurt them!"
"Why not?" He snapped back.
"Did you forget that every life is precious?" He asked and he turned to look at him. At first, he was angry. Then his face softened and he stepped away.
"You're right. My apologies."
"What's going on?" Richard asked again. "Who's this Highness person?"
Seth growled under his breath. "Nice going guys. His cover's blown now."
Annie and Henry both stiffened with realization. "Damn it. Sorry." Annie said, looking back at Kato.
When Seth was going to say something, Kato cut him off. "My name's Kato Glen and my father was the Demon King." He looked at the man, his face saddening slightly. "Can you see why I don't like it when you talk about him like that? From what I know, he was an amazing demon."
Richard stared at him. "W-wait... Glen?" He stepped around the desk. "Was your mother Katherine Glen?"
