Kiber woke the day after his first teleportation trip feeling like death. He had heard about teleportation sickness before, but didn't realize how terrible it would be. "How am I supposed to put up with a week of this feeling like this," he groaned. At least the blindness is gone, he had arrived in Hemrean completely blind, another side effect. "Well I guess that's what you get when your atoms are torn apart in one place and rebuild somewhere else." Kiber had been escorted from the teleportation station to his accommodation in his clients mega tower. He looked around his room now and was dumbstruck by the wealth he saw. Every piece of furniture was made from real wood, his bed could easily sleep four and was covered in real silk. He swung his feet off the bed and couldn't believe what he felt, a real cotton carpet. Kiber Lacer's family was well off and could afford synthetic variants of these luxuries, but the slightly plastic feel always gave away the difference.
He made his way to the bathroom which was decked out in marble, another rare luxury. "And an actual bath on top of all that," he said with a whistle as he looked down, the bath set into the floor. Next he made his way over to the sink and mirror, with the hope that he could splash a little spring back into his step. As he approached, his neural implant synced with the massive mirror above the sink. A second later on the right hand side of the mirror, the date and time popped up in blue along with his vitals in green. A green message began flashing below his vitals suggesting that he see a medi-station about his discomfort. "Yea no kidding," he chuckled as he turned on the faucet and splashed his face. With a glance at his reflection he confirmed that he looked as bad as he felt. Kiber thought he was a fairly good looking guy on most days. He was average height and fit at 23, with sandy blonde hair cut short. He had dark brown eyes and his olive skin was a shade darker than most people. Today though he had bags under his eyes and his skin was pale.
With a growl he turned away from his reflection and headed back to the room. Upon entering his room, he noticed that one entire wall was made up of glass. As he approached, the glass synced with his neural implant and slowly changed from opaque to clear. Kiber looked out over the sprawling Mega City of Hemrean, mega towers and neon lights punctuated the otherwise drab scene. With 2.1 Billion people, Hemrean was the biggest Mega City on Heskion and sadly the one with the largest gap between rich and poor. Either you made it big here or fell into the cracks. The city was know all over the planet for its gambling and entertainment industry, along with its criminal underbelly. As Kiber looked at the different mega towers and neon signs, various advertisements popped up on the window to the left of him. He couldn't help but laugh at the more choice ones promising him everything from immortality to lifelong companionship. Suddenly a bright red message popped up in front of him, his client was coming to introduce himself.
Still in his synth-silk boxers, he turned back to his bag at the foot of his monstrous bed and started putting on his clothes. He first pulled on his synth-denim pants and buttoned up his white shirt. Next he pulled on his favorite pair of heavy nano weave leather boots. Finally he went over to a nearby wooden chair where his standard issue black synthetic trench coat hung. Every Nanomancer was given one upon graduation from the Nanomancer Academy and it acted as a kind of status symbol. His was still brand new, having graduated less than a week ago, it was his second most prized possession. The first obviously being the device fused to his right arm, his Nanite Swarm Tether. Kiber had a generation 5 NeST, it was sleeker and more efficient at producing Nanite Swarms than previous generations and gave him greater control over the minuscule machines. His family had almost bankrupted themselves trying to procure the latest model for him. But now that he was a full fledged Nanomancer, the substantial investment would repay itself many times over.
Kiber's first job as a Nanomancer had been set up by the contracts committee of the Academy, as would most future jobs. Most Nanomancers were hired out by Mega Cities. Either by their government for civil purposes, or by their military as generals or weapons of mass destruction. But Kiber's contract was not held by the City of Hemrean, but by a private individual. Not for the first time he wondered what kind of person could afford a private Nanomancer. Just then a light chime sounded through his room, signalling that someone was waiting for him outside. "Well i guess its time to find out," he said as he strode confidently to the door.
