Several days has passed since Yuna had came to live with her grandmother and not once has she dared leave the safety of her new home. She remembered when she first entered the village, how empty and eerie it was. Her grandmother noticed this and seeing how she was only sixteen the old woman decided in enroll her into the highschool they had. Yuna was against it but she dared not say anything for she was afraid she'd hurt the old woman's feelings. Yuna had never went to an actual school before and the thought of her doing so frightened her. It sent shivers down her spine. She was going to start in two days time and before she had to go to this new school, her grandmother was determined to get the young girl out of the house and into the village.
So, when ever she went shopping, she dragged Yuna along with her. Shyly and slowly, Yuna started to get to know the people her grandmother would buy from. As they walked around the shapeless little village, Yuna noticed how there was barely any small children around. It...was rather odd. She was going to ask about it, but decided to ask later and not be rude. Yuna's glass eyes kept on the dirt ground as she held one of the bags filled with a variety of ingredients for different foods. The two walked in silence as the warm day rolled on and the song of the cicadas continued from yesterday. "Ah....it's going to rain again," her grandmother said before stopping to look up at the sky, she had a hand to her forehead to shield her eyes from the bright sun.
Yuna stopped as well, a few feet in front of her grandmother, and looked up at the grey sky as well. Clouds, dark and thick, started to roll in slowly. "Ah...." The laundry was outside drying, she hoped they'd make it home in time before the rain starts. Yuna's thick lashes blinked slowly before turning her gaze foreword. She....felt like she was being watched, and she was. Ahead of her stood a young man, appearing about her age, staring at her. His stare was blank and showed no emotion, it sent shivers down her body. His eyes....were dark as the night and it frightened her how dark and deep they were.
Yuna glanced away before returning her gaze back to the boy, he was still staring. He was just standing there as well....it was creepy. "Yuna?" Her glass eyes went next to her to find her grandmother standing next to her now. "What are you staring-Oh!" She looked ahead and locked eyes with the young man, "Oh my, little Sou! It's been awhile, my how you've grown." The male turned his attention to Yuna's grandmother and a smile formed on his lips. He walked over to the two and took the grandmother's hand, "Granny, lovely as ever I see," he told her as he kissed her hand.
Grandmother chuckled softly and the young girl only stood there in silence. They knew each other? Well...it was a small village. The male who was apparently named Sou straightened himself before looking at Yuna, who stared at the ground. His smile widened, "And you are? I've never seen someone with Granny before? A helper perhaps?" He chuckled softly as he said this and Yuna's glass eyes glanced up to meet his smiling black ones. Her cheeks reddened a bit and her body shifted uncomfortably.
Granny nodded, "In a way perhaps, this is my granddaughter, Yuna, Yuna this is one of the young-lings in the village. He used to hang around the shrine when he was little, such a kind boy." Yuna gave Sou a small nod and kept her eyes to the ground. Another chuckle left Sou's lips as he observed this shy little rabbit, "It is a pleasure to meet you." "A-ah.....l-likewise...." she mumbled. Sou's mouth opened for a moment when he heard her voice. A...feeling of familiarity filled his heart and then his brows knitted together. A single thought ran through his mind but before he could even ask a voice called out to him.
Turning his gaze behind him, a young girl ran up to the small group, and laced her arm around his. Her cherry lips grinned up at him as her bright blue eyes looked at him lustfully. "Sou~ there you are~" her voice purred. A small sigh left his lips as he felt a small migraine start to form in the back of his head. "Casey....." he mumbled the girls name. Her grin widened before she noticed Yuna and her grandmother. The girl's brow raised as her eyes scanned up and down Yuna's body. "And....what are you doing with these two hmm?"
"Just catching up with an old friend and..." Sou looked over at Yuna and his expression turn kind and nostalgic, "meeting a new one." Casey's smile wavered a bit and her smile turned fake. She stared at Yuna before holding out her hand, "Hello! I'm Casey, Sou's girlfriend!" Yuna jumped a bit from the intensity of the girl's presence and hesitantly she held her hand to shake the beautiful girl's hand, "Y-Yuna...." she answered. Yuna winced a bit from how tight the girl's grip was. "A pleasure," the girl said in a icy tone.
Yuna quickly pulled her hand away and looked away. Not reading the mood, her grandmother only smiled and said, "My, my....you two sure have grown into lovely young men and women." Casey giggled and gushed and the complement while her lover only smiled. Yuna took it that they were used to such complements. "Grandmother....the laundry...." Yuna told the old woman in a soft voice. The old woman looked at her granddaughter before looking up at the sky and then back to the two couple. "Ah...that is right, we put the laundry out to dry. Sadly we must go, it was truly nice seeing you again Sou." Sou smiled at the old woman, "likewise....I'll be stopping by to pray now that I've remembered you."
The old woman's smile wavered a bit but her kind smile still remained. Yuna noticed this, but it seemed the two did not, she felt bad for her poor grandmother. Her grandmother bowed and as did Yuna before they decided to make their way back home. As they walked away, Yuna couldn't help but get the feeling that she was being stared at, looking back behind her she saw the two just standing there. They stood there and stared darkly as Yuna walked away from them, but...that wasn't even the weird or scary part. Looking down at their shadows, she noticed something was wrong, their shadows weren't human-looking at all, instead their shadows were twisted and constantly moving. Twisting and turning, shifting from one shape to the next, their eye sockets kept their form, terrifying Yuna greatly. Unhuman....were her first thoughts upon seeing this. Though...she didn't know how right she was at the moment.
The two arrived home, and the rain had started to pour. They rushed to gather their hanging clothing and brought them inside. A small sigh left the old woman's lips as they balled up the wet clothes and set them aside. Yuna watched the rain fall down from the heavens as her grandmother stood to go into the kitchen. Yuna leaned her head against the frame as her eyelids opened and closed, open and closed. Her ears listened to the rain pound against the roof of the shrine. Flowers danced with the grass as they danced under the cloudy stars. The moon, barely showed her smile on this rainy night.
As the beauty went on outside, Yuna couldn't appreciate it, her mind kept flashing back to what happened earlier today. That man's eyes, the girl's smile, their terrifying shadows. Her eyes closed once, and as they opened, her scenery had changed. A sunny day in a meadow of wildflowers. Yuna stood there, her hair flowing behind her along with the pure white dress that she wore. No clouds were in the sky, the scent of the flowers filled her with ease, and the warmth...the warmth of that person's hands in hers.
She was pulling him along, a smile on her lips. Her crimson eyes looked back and they stared into those beautiful crimson eyes of his. A kind, sad smile on his lips as always. After all this time...he hasn't changed. He never will, he will continue being the same loving man Yuna loved dearly. They stopped and fell back into the pile of flowers. Yuna giggled and sighed happily as they gazed up at the sky. Her lips opened and she started to speak, but not sound came from her throat, even if her lips moved. The same was went for him. Their conversation completely silent from Yuna's ears, though she didn't care.
Yuna rolled onto her side and reached her hand over to cup his cheek, her thumb brushed under his eyes. Sadness and gloom always loomed around in his eyes, he always thought lowly of himself. His eyes closed and his hand touched hers, he kissed her palm and Yuna's smiled softened. Her eyes closed as well, she enjoyed his touched, his kissed, his company. She enjoyed everything about him. That was...until she felt a sharp pain in her palm. Her crimson eyes opened before going wide. A liquid, as red as the rose that sat next to her, rolled down her forearm. Her body trembled as he bit into her skin deeply, taking in the taste of her blood.
Her lips trembled and moved, saying soundless words, as he tore her skin and meat from her hand. His eyes opened and stared at her as he bit into her again. She watched him swallow the bite he had just taken before tearing some more and swallowing. The pain she felt slowly faded, no it wasn't pain at all, pleasure ran through her veins. It sent tingles and shivers down her entire body. Her eyes remained locked on his, there was a change in them, it was like he wasn't himself at all. He was now a monster, consumed by thirst and hunger. Within his eyes, Yuna saw herself, her reflection. Though it wasn't her at all, it was the monster...the monster was in his eyes and not her.
"Yuna?" A cold hand touched her shoulder, causing Yuna to jump. Her widened eyes turned to her grandmother, in her hand was a mug with steam coming from the top. The old woman looked at her grandchild with worry. "Are you alright child?" Within her eyes, Yuna saw herself, and this time it was indeed herself. A shaky sigh left her lips and her hand rubbed the other, "Y-yes....just lost in thought," she answered with a smile. The old woman's worry did not waver but she did not question Yuna about it. Handing the hot mug to the girl, the old woman sat down. She picked up her own mug and blew softly.
"When your father was younger....we used to watch the rain and drink hot coco just like we are now," the old woman said with a sad smile. Yuna stared at her for a long while, her father....at times Yuna had forgotten that he was gone and that the woman, this old, frail woman, missed him greatly. Missing someone....Yuna felt as if she was missing someone as well, but for some odd reason she knew it wasn't her father. Turning her gaze out towards the garden, the two sat there and watched the rain together. They made mindless conversation and drank their warm hot chocolate. Every once in awhile, Yuna would...even smile. For once, she felt at home in this strange village, and this brought her body and soul at ease.
