Ilona Bradshaw took a sip of her drink, the fruity soda doing nothing to ward off the cold in her heart. She pushed it away with a curse.
"Hello." said the stranger sitting next to her. Ilona turned to face him with a faint smile on her lips. She stared directly at him, her piercing blue eyes boring into his soft and kind brown eyes, her sleeveless blue dress shining brighter than his sharp black suit. Ilona stared for a moment more and she could tell, he was enchanted with her. "May I buy you a drink?"
"I'm afraid I'm not a huge fan of this soda. It just doesn't have the same kick to it without the alcohol. So I'm afraid I must decline your offer." Ilona pushed away her strawberry drink and the stranger's advance. She signaled the bartender, picking up her stuff and getting ready to leave.
"Wait!" the stranger grabbed her arm, his fingers grabbing her bare arm. He took a breath and opened his mouth. "What if I told you I knew somewhere you could get some real stuff, not this weak fizzy shit?"
"I'd respond-" she detached his hand from her arm and wrapped it around his shoulders. She could almost hear his heart beating. "Let's go." He led her out of the bar onto the cold streets, it was too early in the year for snow, but no longer did the warm nights of summer bless the Valley. The pair waltzed the streets, seemingly in a random direction while making small talk.
"I never learned your name." said the man, lighting up a cigarette. He offered Ilona one, but she shook her head with a small laugh.
"Ilona. And you are?"
"Alexander. Ee-lone-ah. I recognize that name." Alexander suddenly stopped in front of a grey door with a ornate handle. He opened the door and ushered Ilona inside. "You do any acting?"
"No, but Ilona is a fairly common name." Ilona stood in total darkness as Alexander shut the door. When he flipped on the lights all that was revealed was a small concrete room with a few strange red stains in the corner. "Sooooo... This is a nice... Room. But where's the booze?"
"I'm afraid the only drink to be had here is- You!" Alexander pushed Ilona to face him, baring his elongated canine teeth and flashing his now blood red irises. Ilona took one glance rolled her eyes and walked to the corner, setting her bag down.
"A vampire. Perfect. Do you know what today is?" Ilona started rummaging about in her purse, leaving a bewildered Alexander by the door.
"November 15th? Why aren't you- Screaming right now?" Alexander started to slowly approach Ilona, who was still rummaging in her purse.
"Today is my off day. My one off day of the year. All I wanted to do was get hammered and maybe have a little fun. But noooooo-" Ilona turned around, holding a piece of wood sharpened to a deadly point at one end. "Some idiotic vampiric piece of shit, you, had to come along and attempt to drain my blood in a disgusting concrete room!"
Alexander suddenly realized where he had heard Ilona's name before. In a blur of dark suit and pale skin he rushed to the door, fumbling to unlock it.
"Missing these?" Ilona jingled the keys to the door, dangling them from her hand playfully. Alexander's undead heart suddenly knew the fear of death, his own immortality was coming to an end.
