Seventy-two years. Seventy-two years since I became a creature of the Void. Seventy-two years and then some since I was banished by the woman I betrayed. Seventy-two years of constant surveillance has brought me to this point, where I could finally ready my arrival. I’ve waited for this moment for so long, I just couldn’t wait to make amends. I could finally look in her face and tell her just how horribly, utterly sorry I was. I was ready for this, and it was almost time.
I used to be a mage for a man named Akan, who only used me to defend him. When he didn’t need me anymore, he was so easy to dismiss me that he welcomed an attempt at my life, but it failed. When I was plucked from the world by her hands and dropped into this never-ending land, I thought it was all over. I was picked up by the Walker and made into something much greater. Other than the cosmetic differences, those being extendable wings, a couple extra arms, and thick, beautifully polychromatic hair, I also became much, much stronger with magical power. I was eager to test it, but wasn’t sure where to start until I saw this man, her enemy. He wanted to kill her and I knew just how to make her love me again; I was going to kill him to save her and others.
Erzen, the demon slayer is a horrible, wickedly cruel man that hunted demons and thought she was one as well. He thought he could end the ruler of demons and then live like a king over anyone who wanted to stop him. I tracked him through a forest and into a shack with a basement, where he would spend hours in with a Fairy woman. He treated her like a piece of meat, which angered me, but I couldn’t strike yet, because she was on her way. She was coming, and when she arrived, I will make my move.
She was in her home when she heard the news of a friend that was captured, and she decided to act instantly, just how I knew she would. She was told in a letter to come alone, but she is bringing her lurker pet and concealing it with her magic. I watched her from mere inches away as she traveled, but to her, I was nowhere to be seen. She is my idol; the greatest woman there is. I would have her as mine, and she would love me just the same.
When she arrived, he was hidden in the trees. She set up her defensive magic and quietly entered the shack. Inside, there was nothing, but I couldn’t look any longer. I went outside and waited for him to step out of his hiding spot. He couldn’t see me, but I was well aware of him, so it made the kill that much easier. She came outside again, searching for him, then she saw him in the clearing. They spoke, he laughed, and he threatened to use a weapon against her.
My time has come.
I flung myself into a halfway materialized state and slashed my two bladed arms through and around him. When I fully materialized, I saw his body begin to rupture.
“Wh-what are you?” he asked, spewing blood from his mouth. I knew she would like it to be as brutal as possible, because it was how she worked. His limbs fell off and his skin opened into a mass of blood on the ground. I stood straight up and looked at her, seeing her expression of surprise and confusion.
“Who…? What…?” She couldn’t find the right words to say. I knew she was excited to see me, but she wasn’t showing it. When he collapsed onto the ground in a quickly dying heap, I stared with my new, sky blue eyes at her. I had waited for this moment for too many years, and it was finally my time to make her mine.
“I am sorry, Emily,” I told her. “For everything. Will you take me back into your arms?” I knew it was sudden, but I knew she had to say yes. I loved her and she was supposed to love me back; I knew it would be this way for a long, long time. We stood in silence for a while, seemingly forever to be trapped in her gaze, until she turned and fled into the shack.
I was completely taken aback. Why didn’t she answer me? Did she even recognize me? I followed her into the building and went into the basement where I saw her with that woman. “Emily, it is me, Eleanor. Do you remember?” I pled, but she wasn’t listening to me. “Emily, please. I am sorry for everything I di-“
She interrupted me. “Stop.”
I gasped, not thinking this was how it was going to go. She was supposed to take me in with open arms and love me forever as her own, but she wasn’t. She was paying attention to that woman, which angered me greatly. Out of anger, I pointed one finger at the woman. With a quick spell cast, I saw the color fade from her face. Her essence slowly left her body, which drew Emily to look over at me. I picked up a glowing amulet nearby and stuffed the essence into it, watching the light glow turn reddish.
“What are you doing?!” she yelled at me.
I looked back with tears in my eyes. “You were supposed to be mine! I have waited for so long and this is how you respond?! I am done trying to repent, woman. I am done being anyone’s slave!” I turned and fled, dematerializing into the air. I ran as far as I could from the shack. I flew past the Fairy city, past her fortress, and past the grasslands until I couldn’t see any of it anymore. When I finally stopped, I had no clue where I was at, but I there was no one to stop me from being me. No one would tell me what to do and no one would influence me to be who they wanted me to be. I would finally be free.
