Chapter 2: Revived
Simon felt as if he was in a dream, finding himself at an end of a hallway lined with doors on both sides, each with a number from one to seventeen. He opened the door closest to him and saw what happened that day. He closed it and walked down and stopped at door marked with a red seven. He touched the number, trying to remember what happened when he was that young. As rubbed the door, he pushed it open, slowly remembering what happened that terrible night.
He stepped back when the door was completely open, scared to go in, but something in there called to him, commanding him to go in. He stepped forward reluctantly a couple of steps and stopped.
Do you really want to know? A voice called from nowhere.
He considered what it asked and walked in.
It was the night his mother died. He was in the basement, watching it happen as if it was a movie. The pirate walked down the stairs and into the open basement. His mother holding him tightly, making sure it wouldn’t be easy for them to take him. The pirate said something, but Simon couldn’t hear it. Then the pirate took his mother and said something that he could hear.
“This is what happens when you cross a pirate, child!” The pirate said, shoving a blade through his mother’s chest.
“NO!” Simon screamed, both in the memory and watching.
“Simon!” Yuelia yelled, shaking him awake.
He woke up with a jolt, panting as if he saw something horrific. He looked around frantically to see where he was. He was still at the docks, the remains of the crates everywhere.
“Are you okay?” She said, worried.
He nodded his head. He didn’t know why, but he was too stunned to talk.
“Simon?” she asked.
He coughed heavily and threw up. Yuelia stood up and took a step back. Simon tried to get up, but needed help from her to stand.
“What…. What happened?” He asked.
“The dock was raided and you were attacked,” She said, helping him walk.
“My head…,” he said, holding the side of his head.
He remembered what happened that night and why he was scared when he woke up. Was that the exact pirate that killed his mom? It could’ve been, he looked too young.
“Simon?” Yuelia asked, opening the door to their home for him.
“Yeah?” he said, laying down on the couch.
“Did you see who attacked you?” she asked, sitting in the next chair.
He struggled to remember who they were, but he only remembered their names.
“I don’t remember what they looked like, but I think their names were Shards and Teebs,” he said.
Hearing the names, he remembered more about them.
“Teebs is a pirate and I think Shards was some kind of mercenary or thief?” he said.
“Pirate?” She asked, “Did he hurt you?”
“No, I’m fine… just dizzy… Shards seemed to have some sort of magic? With a purple aura or something,” Simon said, closing his eyes.
“... Did she whisper something?” Yuelia said solemnly.
“Yeah, why?” He said, sitting up a little.
Yuelia ran to the basement and started looking for something. Simon tried to follow her, but he couldn’t get up. Instead, he fell asleep, a dreamless sleep.
He didn’t wake up until the next day. Yuelia was reading a book in the chair next to him. Somehow, he got upstairs in his room. He looked around and made sure it was real. It was.
“Good morning, sleepy head,” Yuelia said, looking up from her book.
“Good morning… what time is it?” Simon asked, sitting up.
“Nearly noon,” She said, standing, “Can you stand?”
Simon stood up and walked.
“Good. Now you can explain what happened to your boss…,” she said, walking down stairs
Simon got dressed and teleported to the docks, his boss looking through the busted crates. He walked up cautiously, not wanting to provoke him.
“Tell me everything,” his boss said, the hairs on his arms sparking with electricity.
“Uhh… Pirates,” Simon said, stepping back.
“I said everything!” His boss yelled.
“Calm down, Kyle!” Simon said.
Kyle took a few deep breaths and calmed down.
“Tell me,” Kyle said.
Simon told Kyle everything that happened, though Kyle seemed to have difficulty believing it. After it all, he got it. There have been raids every now and again, but none like this.
“Who busts open crates and only take the whisper shards?” Kyle asked.
“Aren’t those used for whisper magic?” Simon asked, looking over his shoulder.
“Yeah. But only the mages know how to use them,” Kyle said, walking out of the busted crate, “So why take them? They don’t sell for much, they’re difficult to use, and they aren’t worth stealing.”
“Unless the person who stole them knows how they work,” Simon said, “Right? If they’re virtually worthless, then why even try to find them in the first place?”
“If the girl you mentioned used what you thought was whisper magic, then she’s going to get a lot stronger,” Kyle said, walking to the warehouse.
“How?” Simon asked.
“The amount that was stolen was enough to obliterate Northern Zenith if used by one person,” Kyle said, closing the warehouse doors.
Simon thought about this.
What if she comes back? Will she destroy us? He thought.
But he remembered what they said and one question haunted his mind.
What did they mean by ‘Is he the one?’
“Simon! Can you go check on the power?” Yuelia asked from downstairs.
“Sure,” He said, going outside.
He teleported to the shed and checked the meter. Enough power to last the month.
How hard is electimagic to learn? He thought.
The door closed and Simon was surrounded by darkness.
“Ha ha, Yuelia, real funny,” He said, walking over.
He tried to open it, but it was blocked from the other side.
“Okay, you can stop playing,” Simon said, getting worried.
He turned and saw two glowing, purple eyes towards the back of the room.
“Okay, open the door now!” He shouted, leaning on the door.
“You’re fearful of what you don’t understand, aren’t you?” the eyes said.
Simon started banging on the door, trying to get it to open.
“You’re weak when you’re afraid,” it said, taking a step closer, “Don’t be afraid of me.”
“What are you?” Simon said, turning around, his back to the door.
“I’m an ender. Something that can give you power,” the ender said, standing directly in front of him, “All you need to do is say the word.”
Simon pulled his head back, trying to get away from it. Then he considered what it said.
“How much power?” he asked, standing up straight.
“As much as you wish,” it said.
He thought about this. He could defend against pirates and anyone else who threatens the town.
“What’s the cost?” Simon asked.
“No cost. Just alliance. All I need is your name,” it said.
“Tell me your name first,” Simon said.
“I’m Endro. Now your name,” Endro said.
“I’m Simon…,” Simon said.
“You’re going to feel a slight pain in your head. You’ll pass out, but you’ll wake up in your bed, the day restarted. As if nothing happened,” Endro said.
“Just do it,” Simon said.
Endro put his thumbs on Simon’s forehead. Then he felt a sharp pain in his head, as Endro said.
“When you wake up, the day will restart. Enjoy your new gifts,” Endro said, teleporting away.
Simon fell on his knees, holding his head. Then he fell on his back, passing out.
The day will restart…., He thought.
