So I normally don't drive on GPS; Yeah, I mean it's quite neat and useful when you're going to a totally new place; but often it's just a stopper from learning the city and trusting your own sense of orientation. Eg. I actually learned the topografy of Wroclaw ( a city I visit roughly every week for business trips), when I stopped using GPS and trusted my memory and brain instead.
The story above happend when we were in the mountains on some weekend getaway. We were coming back from Czech Republic. I'd normally take that big two lane transit road, but Google Maps insited on taking the small road by the river. Hell, how could I know we'd end up on the front yard of some psycho with a blood-soaked axe?!
