When the needle stopped, I let out the air I didn't even notice i was holding. My skin burned as if a hairy caterpillar had danced on it. I looked sideways and noticed that the dark skin on Niel's arm, which i was tightening, was quite red, I turned my eyes to him, who was looking to my back and then looked at me, smiling with those shining green eyes.
"It's beautiful." He said, his voice was pure excitement.
I gave a tired smile, wiped the sweat from my forehead, relaxed my shoulders, and then looked up at the ceiling. "I can't believe you made me do it." I said. He just laughed.
I didn't understand Niel's fascination with tattoos, he wasn't even 18, but he already had almost 10 all over his body, and that's what he was talking about when we left the tattoo artist. It was harming a little behind my right shoulder, but it was tolerable.
"I'm thinking 'bout drawing a pair of wings on my back the next time, but for that one I have to save some money." He spoke all excited.
I thought it was crazy and I laughed. "Your mother never wanted to put acid on you?" I joked.
"Oh, no." He shrugged and adjusted his white cap with green flap under the heap of curls in his curly hair. "You have to see my brother ... he have almost 30." He paused to light a cigarette.
Thirty tattoos, I only did one and it seemed like an endless torture, I really do not know if I could take thirty, I also would never think about drawing wings on my back. We were walking down an avenue downtown, we've leaved the school straight to the studio, the backpacks still on the back, mine only on one side of the shoulder.
"I was thinking about sleep at your house today." Niel said, it seemed like a sugestion. I looked at him, but he was already looking at me. "Okay, it's not available ..."
"That's not the thing" I put my hands in the pockets of my shorts and cut it off in the middle of the sentence. "You know how my mom is"
"You're right." He smiled, it was a wird smile, anyone could say that he had been embarrassed, but I knew him, and it was not the case.
I havn't notice that iwas stood and staring at him while he looked away. "I can ask her about it..." I said and he looked at me. "I'll call you if she let and then you go." I shrugged like it was the simplest thing in the world.
Niel stared at me while I spoke, he then looked down and let out a laugh. "Don't worry, Bunny. You don't have to bother about it."
"have something wrong?" I kept staring at him.
"Of course not." He smiled at me.
"You're such a bad liar." I frown and he just looked away. "Tell me." He looked at me from side to side, seemed angry, but he just shook his head. "I want to help you, tell me." I stopped walking and touched his arm to which he also stopped walking.
"It's not ..." He raised his voice and stopped talking, as it was to control himself. "...something I want to share with you." He stared at the sun, lighting his face in silence. It hurt a little to hear that, but it was just a bad choice of words on his part. "Not because I think you wouldn't understand, it's just ... it's not something I want to tell anyone ... It's not worth it." He sighed and stared at the pavement floor.
"You don't have to tell me then." I did not take my eyes off him. "whatever it is, you do not have to go through it, you can sleep there at home."
"But you said your mother..." He looked at me after a few seconds of silence.
"She doesn't have to know you're there. - I smiled. It made a salient smile sprout on his face.
"Are not you going to get in trouble over that?"
"If she sees you I'll tell her that I got a tattoo, she won't care 'bout anything else." I smiled.
"You have no idea how much I love you." Niel said, I could see the reflection of the sun on his eyes and lightening the dark skin. He was the most handsome boy I've ever met. I was so hypnotized by his features that I did not even notice i was biting my lip while he brought his face close to mine.
"Not here, sucker." I walked away laughing.
"Why? There's no problem for me." He was joking. But I was serious about what that kind of joke might get. "Okay, Okay!" He raised his hands up and smiled, stepping backwards. "See you tonight?"
"See you tonight." I said, and he blinked, turned away, and left.
