The morning light shown into Demetra's room like several beads of yellow paper. The morning hurts as bad as the hard floor Demetra slept on. The move from Lindon to Saxondale was harsh, the cities were two hundred and fifty-seven miles apart. Demetra tried to sleep through the four-hour drive but her siblings and parents decided to argue the whole way.
Theodosia and Ophiel didn’t want to move, but in all honesty neither did Demetra. The small town of Lindon was beautiful, it looked as if it hadn’t been attacked by technology yet. Lindon was flushed with blush colored trees and short locally owned markets, the people there added to the town's beauty they looked like movie stars but were just normal average joes. Saxondale was different, Saxondale was sleazy. Saxondales people littered the streets and covered their town in the newest technology.
Theodosia and Ophiel agreed with Demetra on that much, they were leaving the white cream colored house they lived in since they were born. The old swingset in the backyard that groaned when anyone swung on it. The small high school that was just made of brick walls and oak wood floors. That was the charm of Lindon.
The small apartment the family lived in was soaked in hate, the espresso colored walls and the birch floors were distasteful, the flower boxes outside the windows were filled with cigarette butts and bottles of brown liquids. The moving truck wouldn’t come till the day after they arrived, so they were forced to sleep on the decaying floors. Demetra took hold in her room, which would become her art cave. Demetra’s old room had paint flung on the walls and floor, was littered with brushes and buckets and her easel was stacked in the corner, also soaked in previous projects.
Demetra woke up at eleven, no one else was awake and there was no food in the nearly empty home. Demetra decided to go for a walk around the neighborhood. Demetra’s walking boots were falling apart and didn’t fit the new town, they were worn from walking along the river and lakes around her old home.
Saxondale wasn’t awake at Eleven on a Saturday, the sky was misty and gray, buildings disappeared behind fog. Saxondale was large and covered in monotone blue, the people out here had no pity their buildings of worship and community were covered in spray paint with swears and large gang names. This place didn’t seem safe, it didn’t seem like people liked each other.
After an hour of discovering the town was quite like sailing in a sea storm, Demetra turned and went home, everything about her screamed outsider and loner to the new town. Lights turned on in some homes, but no one went outside. Demetra opened the red door that led to her apartment complex, the red was as shy as a politician. Theodoshia was sitting by the door reading one of her Goosebumps books, which was a hand me down from Demetra’s collection of books, a shame she gave half of them up because of the move. The small girl looked up her green eyes shining from the light of the outside.
“Where did you go?” The girl put her book down and stood up, she needed another head to stand as tall as Demetra.
“Out” The older sibling starting walking towards her room, when the younger took her hand.
“I’m hungry” The smaller stared into Demetra’s indigo eyes.
“Go wake up Ophiel and Azazel, I’ll go wake up Mom and Lila”
“Really?” The young’s eyes lit up like a light bulbs and she ran to the other rooms in the apartment.
Demetra knocked on the eldest door, no response from the other side was heard. The door creaked as it opened revealing two women lying on the floor, both facing each other. The window blinds were closed and had been left by the previous owners. Demetra's mother and Lila, her new wife and mother of Azazel. Lila and Demetra's mom, Sharron, had dated awhile. Both women were extremely different. Lila is tall and thin with most of her height coming from her legs, her jet black hair with various pieces of white and grays were beautiful in contrast with her almond shaped honey eyes. Sharron the complete opposite to Lila's pale and tall figure. Sharron held a short and plump figure, along with dark skin, as it in contrast to hazel eyes and a cone nose.
The two women shared a beautiful wedding last fall when pink trees turned tea rose. The theme was white and red and the outdoor ceremony at dusk with white lace gowns and black velvet tuxes were luxurious. That was the last fall Demetra had been in Lindon and was the last time she truly saw her mother smile. The economy fell heavily in summer, which sparked outrage and tears from everyone. Lindon basically disbanded with no one able to stay there, memories died in the back of Demetra's mind as they road farther and farther from her home.
Demetra stepped forward and opened the blinds which the two honeymooners didn't mind until two children ran in yelling. The twins Ophiel and Theodoshia were jumping and yelling for their parent's attention, soon after them, Azazel walked in. None of the children had extremely close personalities from the outside, Azazel refused to wear color, Ophiel liked pink's and every outfit sported flowers. Theodoshia had long blond hair and wore overalls and shorts ever wear (Even her mothers' wedding), and Demetra wore earth tones and was always covered with a thin layer of dirt.
The mothers' stood up and rushed their children out of the room so they could dress. A knock could be heard at the door, in which Azazel answered, a short and nervous man stood at the door, next to him was a lady who looked three inches taller than him. The pair were the Ambrosia's neighbors, Mr. Leeway and Ms. Wicker. The two were similar sporting gray and black clothing along with white blond hair and paler eyes. The two welcomed the family to the building and asked if Azazel was the owner, at that time the guardians walked out of their room and greeted the pair at the door.
At that moment the neighbors face twisted and they walked away. No one really minded it, it was quite a common response from some people. Of course Lila didn't care and closed the door behind them, Mom was worried but didn't care.
Theodoshia asked me what I saw on my walk, I replied with gray, since that was all the town is. Lila and Mom grabbed their bags and said they'd come back with food for us. They wanted someone to be here if the moving trucks showed up. Theodoshia and Ophiel started talking about the book that Theo was reading. Ophiel is timid and too afraid to read the books by himself, Theo threw herself at the books and can read a goosebumps book in a day. The two children sat on the cold floor in a heated discussion, while Azazel stood up against a wall trying to make sense of the children's heated dialogue.
I went out and stood on the apartments outside hallway, the sky was turning blue. Two children stood at the basketball court, visible from the halls, both of them dressed in pale and dull colors. The children had expressionless and bland faces, their hair a dark brown with a mixture of blond highlights. The children looked up at me like predators seeing their prey. The door opened behind me and Azazel stepped out, the two children stared harder, Azazel swore and laughed at them.
"Take a picture it lasts longer." Azazel laughed off the children's weird nature and told me that Ophiel and Theo were fighting and he needed me to help stop them. I walked in a took Theo to our room to let her rant out what ever was bugging her, but I just assumed they were rowdy because they were hungry.
After what seemed like seven hours of Theo talking about god knows what Mom and Lila walked through the door. They found a place that served breakfast and got us pancakes. The two children's argument was settled after a couple of pancakes and some hot coco.
At three the moving truck showed up, we got the furniture and basic things set up by eight. Azazel and Mom left to get dinner, leaving Lila, Theo, Ophiel and I too continue unpacking I put the sheets and bedding on the beds while Lila and Ophiel put kitchen items in the right place. Theo sat behind me
