Meet Mr McClarence!

In the world he lives in almost everyone has electronical gears implanted in their brains in order to enhance their intellectual capabilities and life experience. Disorders and bugs in the gear's software can cause serious health issues, hallucinations and as a consequence sometimes death.
Due to some long gone shady connections from his past, McClarence is one of the few people who never got gears implanted in their brains. However, with his natural intellect and some incredible luck, he manages to continually deceive the system that he has one of the basic implants.
He even got himself a job at a support company specialized in environment programming. There, he fixes online bugs that effect the perception of the environment, e.g. animated wall designs of buildings and other trivial things.
Despite the daily ordeal of sneaking through the implant checkpoints of the company, McClarence is terribly bored with his job and wishes to rank up to tackle more important issues with the augmented reality system. Ironically the promotion would require some high class brain implants, which McClarence vehemently declines.
Besides Mc Clarence’s unmotivated demeanors and his occasional outburst of rebellious creativity when redesigning the environment, he also has a hard time to bond with other people. While being enormously considerate of others he can't help but feel alienated from regular people, mostly due to the fact that he literally sees world differently than them. The only warm relationship he has is with his superior, an old man who acts as a father figure to him and who always calls him out for being timid or doing unnecessary things at work.

McClarence is very fond of his walrus mustache that he designed in the augmented reality system as a response to his (in reality) weak bear growth. The missing mustache has become a token of reality for him.
