Blood Promise

Chapter one: Before the nightmare II

Chapter one: Before the nightmare II

Nov 22, 2017

Inside a circular stone platform -whose diameter was not more than two meters- was an old man with his hair tied in a ponytail. Despite his age, his back was as straight as he had been in his youth, and his bearing exuded a strange vigor for his old age.

In the vicinity of the place were several young people who surrounded the wise figure as if they formed a ring around him. Since they were in the courtyard of the governor's mansion, they were all sitting on the clean grass.

From the looks each of the people had, it was not difficult to understand the kind of seriousness that predominated in them. As if they were immovable concrete statues, the concentration of young people was focused on understanding the meaning behind the words of the old man.

As for the why of their actions, it was common sense to listen to someone whose knowledge about the world was unpaired within Athame, one of the eight cities under the jurisdiction of Boreas.

Although the children of great merchants received an expensive education from the scholars, the knowledge received by these was far from being compared with that provided by Enrot. Especially if one took into account the wide reputation he enjoyed within the region, being not only recognized as a sage by many but also as a man without rival.

After all, the title as the strongest adventurer was not just a simple adornment. It was a merit granted by the association, an existence as old as the origins of the city, and who were responsible for facing the various problems in the exterior.

This entity fulfilled many functions of vital importance, among which stood out its mission to be an intermediary before potential conflicts between regions, produce remarkable warriors to hunt creatures that provided unique materials and explore areas of the kingdom never seen before. Hence the name adventurer association with which it was commonly known by the public, but also being an incorrect term to refer to them.

- So, no matter how much the position that one manages to reach, he must always have the courage to remind himself how ignorant he is. To think that they know everything, to think that they know everything, to think that they have seen everything ... these are the worst mistakes they could commit as human beings. The path of learning is unlimited, you never finish traveling, but that is no reason to feel discouraged ... That is an even greater reason to dare to conquer it.

The young people listened to the teachings of the old man, there were even many who made some notes to avoid forgetting them. This natural environment was interrupted by a boy who raised his hand to ask.

- Does this also apply to you? -If your intentions were offensive, longing for knowledge or just a pointless curiosity, only God knew it.

-Of course. I have traveled in many places and nature never ceases to amaze me ... Within this immense realm in which we live, what for us can be a miracle, in other places it may not be, does anyone else have another question? After verifying that no one else had any intention of participating, the old man continued to finish the conversation. Well, that's all we'll talk about right now, you can retire.

Following the elder's instructions, the surrounding people stood up while muttering about the lessons learned. There were many who stretched their arms to relax their limbs, others who yawned to free themselves from fatigue. But absolutely everyone showed their respect before disappearing through the door of the courtyard of the mansion.

Some time after the students left the place, Enrot remained inside the small stone platform. His eyes did not look any particular way, it was as if he glimpsed nothingness.

Of course that was not the case, he was actually immersed in his thoughts, looking for a solution to his concern that only a person of his caliber could have. However, that state of his was interrupted when his senses caught a person hidden in the distance.

«That boy again? I wonder how many times the governor's security has already been cheated ... How amusing, some guards who have gone through hard training and can not catch a child ... Well, I will not say anything. If there are so many cravings for knowledge to risk that way, then you are more than qualified to listen to that little talk. "

After adopting a soft smile on his face, the old man left to meet the owner of the mansion. However, before that he raised his hand to make a small greeting to the boy who was hiding behind the walls that separated the patio with the outside.

Once he entered the main room of the mansion, the old man soon perceived a strange environment as a result of what was happening. For the maids ran with impatience at the same time that they moved different things, the chefs work with restlessness in an attempt to prepare the best of their dishes and the absence of tranquility flooded even the most humble of the servants.

Enrot decided to sit on the furniture located in the center next to a small glass table-which held a beautiful vase with the delicate design of a bizarre mountainous landscape. There were some scattered sheets that contained a variety of characters in them, showing that they were documents and not just any text.

The appropriate behavior indicated that a guest should avoid interfering in the affairs of their hospital, at least that was the right thing in circumstances where both presented different social positions as well as a lack of confidence. But the old man ignored these tacit protocols, not because of a lack of manners but because this matter was more important than any other.

With this thought in his head, the old man did not bother himself in doubts without senses and began to read the documents while waiting for the servants to attend him. The brightness of surprise soon appeared in his eyes as his quick reading ceased, one that made him understand the motive behind the euphoric atmosphere that enveloped the city.

To summarize the details, the governor had ordered that they would have a festive week in Athame. This in order to welcome an important guest whose origin was not even within the region.

Thus, in order not to provoke the wrath of this person who had a fearsome power backing him, the owner of the mansion along with his subordinates were pressured to provide the best hospitality they could offer.

Being Enrot a man who had lived for a long time -so that perhaps he could be considered the longest person in the region-, these matters did not require his direct intervention, so after losing interest he decided to put the documents back on the table.

At least that's the way things should have happened.

But just before the old man discarded the papers, some words written on it caught his attention. To be more exact, this was about the letters that defined the identity of the person who presented himself as a dear guest.

As soon as Enrot read this individual's name carefully, he could not help but frown at the same time that his expression turned somber. Counting on his extensive experience gained over the years, he could only come to one conclusion:

The situation was terribly bad.

The ancestors called it magic in their ignorance, the older ones thought it was the chakra, the arrogant young people said it was science in their intelligentsia, the deepest spirituality argued that they were miracles.

But all of them were wrong.

Many times throughout history, we tried to explain the gift of divinity through different names: Qi, Shinsho, Vera, Faith, Life energy and many more. All in a false attempt to understand a truth that surpasses humanity.

Therefore, no matter how much he tried, the man was cursed to never find the answer to the most implacable of his searches. At least not until I recognized that the human being is not limited to his senses or machines, not until he understood that the concept of the universe is bigger than it fits in a paper ...

On a plane that transcends ours, in a world of virtuous colors, where the creator of existence blessed with a precious gift to his children. The last remnant of the primordial age will rise, to cross the tortuous road to the true summit of life itself.
This is his story…
