I've been looking forward to doing this page for a long time. It sort of changed the way I look at Felix after I wrote the scene down properly. No matter how much I think I know my own characters, they're always still full of surprises.
This page has lots of extra science details for anyone who enjoys them, but they don't matter nearly as much to the story as the conclusions they'll lead to here as the page continues. That hopefully goes for the comic in general. The feeling is much more essential than the details. See unuh next week!
Edit 1: The yellow mold-looking thing growing near those dainty lil mushrooms is not a fungus, but an amoebazoan (distant relative of amoebas) called the "dog vomit slime mold" which is such a fantastic name for an organism. Like, someone went "I dunno, it's bile-colored and grows on rotting wood. Let's just string together three of the nastiest concepts we can come up with and call it a day" and it caught on.
Edit 2: Google image "moss pod SEM" if you never wanna look at the ground the same way again, for better or worse. I did not take very many liberties with moss capsules! They're fascinating, and intricate, and everywhere. Moss pods use those rows of teeth to sense humidity in the air and selectively release spores (offspring) into wetter conditions, like after it rains, when the spores are more likely to land and grow somewhere nice and damp.
Also, goddamn am I glad I started making comics after vertical comics got in vogue cause this format is my JAM.
There's a bug going around, jamming just about any genes it likes into human DNA, and transforming its hosts into Virmen: contagious and beastly mistakes of god.
Society has re-structured well enough to the parasite's presence that the word "pandemic" hardly crosses any lips.
Japhet finds themself stuck with the sharp end of how society keeps itself clean, and they won't be taking it kindly.
Updates Mondays. The standalone site is more accessible, and has a content warning widget cause it gon' get nasty.
