I’m hoping the comic doesn’t start off too dark; I do kill a person and show a kid going through abuse, but I want to be able to tell stories for kids that deal with some serious themes that are normally not really touched upon, and I hope that by the end of the story I have helped show a serious problem (child abuse) through a creative medium that could potentially show others how to deal with their own problems.
I remember watching special features for the He-Man & She-Ra film recently, and they said that they have many people, both kids and adults, say that their 30 second moral lesson at the end of the episode about not being touched actually made people come forth and talk about their experiences to their family. To be able to have such a positive influence through a cartoon like that is really amazing.
Cory, Arad, & Jackson are three ordinary earth children who find themselves in the fantasy world of Flux. There, they meet Maria, the sword-fighting princess, Darius, the last sorceress, Gluss, the centaur general, and Redwing, a near-sighted dragon. Together, they must stop Gaudra, a living mechanical creature, before the entire world is converted into metal.
Only one thing can stop Gaudra; a powerful amulet that can only be used by Cory and Maria. However, to use this amulet requires positive emotional control. Cory must overcome his intense hatred toward his abusive stepfather, while Maria must overcome her irrational hatred of everything machine, otherwise the entire realm will become a metallic wasteland.
