“Poor Emily, she’s a mess. I wish there was something we can do for her.”
The beautiful goddess, Yhannason, spoke from the chair in Emily’s room, “She will have to figure it out on her own. This isn’t something we can just fix.”
“How do we get her to realize that?”
“It may come to her in a dream or in her own perception, we won’t know until she does.”
I looked up. “Have you ever faced off against one of them?”
She played with the question in her head, then said, “No, but I’ve helped others face them. Descentian gods don’t always play fair. Then again, neither do some Ascentian gods.”
“Have you ever been friends with them? I mean, they can’t all be bad just because they are from there, can they?”
“Not all of them are evil, Lucelle, just like how not all demons or the like are evil.” I guess she was smarter than I thought. “I have had pleasant times with some of them before, if that answers your question.”
“Right… I apologize for the questions, I’ve just, you know, never met a goddess before.”
“Is that so? Emily talks nicely about you. Well, when I watch, she usually brings you up in conversations. You two were close when you were younger?”
I nodded. “We were very close until the accident.”
She tilted her head. I assumed she knew, but she still asked, “Accident?”
“My sister, I made her fall and injure her head. She wasn’t responsive or conscious after that.”
“Until Emily needed her.” So, she did know. “I’m well aware of your sister, Ulla. Now, tell me, you remember her well, correct?”
I nodded again. “Her face is in my mind every day.”
“And you are quite skilled with a certain magic that would let me see the same face, correct?”
“That’s right. I won’t question your reasoning, Goddess, but would you like me to share with you an image?”
She smiled, then walked over to offer a hand. “I would like that.” I took hers in mine, which made me realize just how much larger my body was than hers. I focused on my memories of Ullathyna, my dear sister, and shared them with the goddess. Emily, who had settled down by this point, shifted, then mumbled Ulla’s name. I guess my magic happened to seep into her as well. Wait…
I perked up. “Emily can see what I put into her mind!”
Goddess Yhannason focused back on reality and then smiled. “That’s very good to know. We can use that to communicate better with her.”
“Alright, I’m going to try something.” I focused on what I was seeing right at that moment, then started funneling it into Emily’s mind. She shifted more and smiled, tightening her hug around me. “I guess it helps, at least. Helps her not be so lonely.”
The goddess went to the door. “I’m going to leave you two for a bit. If anything bad happens, just call.” I bid her farewell and she left. Goddesses are not that far off from regular women. Sure, their features are impeccable and they are so much more powerful than us mortals, but they were all once mortal, too. I don’t remember the last time a mortal became a god or goddess, it has been too long. Maybe we’ve left that age and are moving into a new one. Maybe the age of the immortals is coming to a close. Maybe, just maybe, that is why this war is going to begin.
