The night was still relatively young, but honestly, Rori was reaching her limit of patience. There was simply little to no traffic on her side of the lounge! For whatever reason, the wishes she asked for to the gods were being a little elusive as well. Sometimes it ebbed and flowed like that; there were weeks where she had to fight for the sake of keeping her place clean of bad energy as opposed to actually doing the job she needed to do. Not all of them were bad, of course. There were those that she protected. Those that knew exactly what she was and relied on her, and others like her, to maintain some sort of cosmic order so that the world did indeed keep spinning. What would happen on a colossal scale if the Order did not do its job she didn’t know, but the small-scale consequences were enough to keep her doing the job.
Rori was only half aware of who was coming through the door. She would aid them by recommending books if the lounge didn't have the title the customer was looking for. Her gaze happened to flicker towards the cafe side's door as a young man came in from out of the night, and instantly her body stiffened.
The hand that was holding a lavender book began to tremble and she did her best to quell it; this was not happening, was it? Oh, it had to be a cruel joke. She had never expected it to be the same person, not this person! The smell of him on the street? Cars harmed nature so much and she honestly disliked the scent of motor oil. She looked away and smiled at the girl she was attending, "I think you'll like this book, The Star Gazer, it's a love story between a human and a vampire...but you know, actually good! There are so many bad ones."
With the customer happy and the book purchased, Rori gazed into the doorway that stood between the Cafe and the Bookstore. So that crash from before hadn't been just a random stranger. It had happened so fast that she didn't even look at him correctly.
It was possible that the man wouldn’t notice and she could ignore him for the rest of her existence. She casually averted her gaze and went back to the shelves among the book cases, figuring that she ought to wait till her shift was over and get the hell out of there. But, as fate would have it, she was neither fast enough nor so lucky that he would not be drawn to her. She could feel it around him; they called it an aura these days. He wouldn’t even be the slightest bit aware.
He slid into a seat across the cafe looking at his phone rather closely. There would certainly have been times where Rori might have considered giving in to his charms for the fun of it, but this was not that night. No, not with him. Any indulgence in anything at all and he would never be out of her life and she believed that it had already happened by telling him to come here. She would give him some cold, biting comment and hide back behind the counter.
Her coworker called out, "I got an order up for the cutie with the black hair!" and sure enough Rori walked around her counter to pick up her order. As she reached forwards, another hand did. Then that smell of a mechanic's shop came to her. No! He was taking her drink too? He didn't look to have the tastes for sweet teas and pumpkin spice! "Are you sure she called you? I didn't hear a name." She looked at the mug, that beautiful kitten drawn onto the foam was her's. "You look more of a cup of Joe type of guy rather than a sweet pumpkin spiced chai with cream on top."
Before they could get any further upset, Janey brought out an identical drink. “You two ordered the same drink, to be honest, I think you'd make a cute couple. Opposites do attract don't they?" The guy took that drink and left her with her own. He looked pouty and upset...kind of cute but at the same time she wanted to give him a good punch. She left back to her post. Seeing him leave after he finished his drink got her to relax. She knew he wouldn't be back for the rest of the evening, whoever came back to a cafe after getting their night's drink anyways?
