"A pleasure to meet you Mr. Kradres. If you don't mind me asking, what does one man, even one as obviously wealthy as you, need to hire a Nanomancer for?" Kiber said in a neutral tone. "So the rumors are true, the Academy doesn't tell its Nanomancers about the jobs they are hired out for. Well Kiber, as you so rightly mentioned, I am very wealthy, probably the most wealthy man in this city to be honest. Did you know that more money flows through Hemrean than any other Mega City on Heskion, except of course the trade hub Mega City of Cerulea. But that's off topic, now being so wealthy brings with it certain risks, especially with what I have planned. You see, I want to make this city a better place and there are many who would be...opposed to that course of action." he responded with a sly smile. "Now I realize that hiring the equivalent of a well equipped army as a body guard seems excessive, but you don't get to where I am without making some very powerful enemies."
Kiber realized that he was sitting on the edge of his seat, why does this man make me so nervous? he thought. As he relaxed back into the leather couch, Kiber said, "I see... so a coup, I must warn you Mr. Kradres that while I did graduate top of my group at the Academy, my powers are not limitless. I cannot fight a war for you, not on my own at least." Shock and possibly a small spark of anger passed over Mr. Kradres face before it returned to its plainness. "A coup!? Please Kiber, I am not talking about anything so crude as that. I am simply looking to cement my holdings here and help reduce the chaos that plagues this cities streets. For that to happen, I can't be constantly worried about a sword in the back." he said with a chuckle.
Kiber sat for a few moments considering what Mr. Kradres had just said. He was in no position to refuse the man, only one Nanomancer had ever defied the Academy and it did not end well at all. Kiber's biggest problem was that he knew deep down that the man was lying to him. But Nanomancers were mercenaries, as long as the money was good, he would finish his contract. Doesnt mean that I have to like it, he thought. "Very well Mr. Kradres, so tell me a little more about what it is that you do."
With a flat look, the man responed. "Come now Kiber, I asked you very nicely to call me Cedron, this Mr. Kradres business is all so formal." He paused until Kiber gave a small nod. "Excellent. Now, when it comes to what it is that I do, well my interests are varied. However I mostly operate in the entertainment industry that this city is so well know for. But sitting here and telling it to you would rob you of a valuable learning experience. So tomorrow I will take you on a tour of some of my bigger operations. That way you can see what it is that I do and learn a little about the local terrain, so to speak. I have no doubt that after seeing the Hemrean streets, you will agree that this city could do with a little less chaos."
