“Begin the spell”
A final explosion of shed feathers was the last thing Finch saw before the ground around the demon erupted in light; a scream of rage and terror and pain filling the room with a resonating air of despair as the points of light began to bleed into each other, circling around the two of them and encasing them inside a glowing dome as the feathered man came back into Finch’s view. Skin rose in goosebumps and bloodspots as feathers started to rip through the angry red skin. He could feel his shoulders be pulled tighter and tighter until they felt as if they’d be pulled out of socket, eyes rolling back in his head as the restraints around him began to crack.
“Kid DO something!” the man began to gasp for air as his chest tightened stretching and bowing out as his arms started to slip free from the thick metal restraints. He couldn’t control his form, and it was apparent as his body started convulsing trying desperately to keep his limbs from being broken by the tension. He’d heard horror stories from passing travelers, of demon hunters from another world who were kidnapping innocent beings left and right, tearing families apart. Some of them had shown up again. Sealed inside bodies other, weaker beings who’d they’d overtaken in a desperate attempt to get home, but they were never the same again…What did that mean for him? With how weak he was after so many failed escape attempts, and how strained his body was trying to keep up with the damage he caused fighting his restraints, could he survive it? Hell could this kid survive it?
“Stage one Start: Begin Condensing of Demon.”
“Kid please if you don’t do something quick, they’ll bind us! Don’t freeze up on me now!” he felt himself finally pull free of the restraints falling exhausted to the floor as he started to pull in on himself, reverting to a smaller, unimposing bird form they’d forced him into. Small, and currently helpless. He didn’t have the energy to stand let alone fly…oh how he’d love to be in the air right now out of their grasps…
“Stage two Start: Begin Sealing.” Finch felt his heart drop as he felt himself forced closer and closer to the small pile of twitching feathers below the empty restraints where the older man hung a moment ago. There was no way either of them would survive if they put all their energy into fighting the fusion. They both understood that. The only thing they could do…was try to remain as separated as possible when they were thrown into one another. Finch flinched, sighing in relief as his muzzle unhooked falling free on the ground, and skidding along an unseen turbulence that carried all the loose feathers with it. The bird looked at the boy, confused at the sight before him. Oversized fangs stuck out from his jaw as he relished in the ability to move his mouth freely gagging in relief as he tried to rid himself of the metallic taste.
“I…I’m sorry…I don’t think I can fight this…” Finch whispered, curling in on himself as the bird was sucked closer, raising his head in anger as he lashed out with talons, only if just to buy another moment of freedom from his inevitable fate.
“Whatever you do…Don’t you dare lose yourself” the bird hissed, grunting in pain as the two of them were thrown into an endless abyss of painful, suffocating darkness that created an imposing pressure freezing froze Finch in place. He couldn’t see the bird demon from before. His body had won out.
“Hurts..Have to…Have to…Get out” Finch panted, looking around. He could hear something else, faint. But there.
“G…getting closer…” Finch’s head shot up eyes wide in fear searching for the source, the room dimming around them as the once intense ritual circle beneath them began to evaporate into nothing
“C…can’t combine”
“H..ave to stay…apart” it sounded just as panicked as him
“Have to…”
“Need to…Want..”
“To get…”
“To break” a flash of white blinded him as something jagged and sharp and painful slammed its way into his chest, stabbing deep as he had to offer. He threw himself backwards trying to get away. The two screamed in an ear shattering crescendo as Finch was assaulted with a thousand different emotions at once, mostly pain, and panic, but also a driving, suffocating need to be
“FREE!” Finch found himself standing somehow, shaking in terror as he looked around trying to remember where he was. Everything seemed so much more…colorful and vibrant than before, but as he tried to turn to assess what had happened. Although his body felt oddly…foregin he also ached less. The pain from before had all but subsided, weather in blind panic or from something else he didn’t know, but it wasn’t long before it came back. He felt his head explode in inner screams, a pressure building until it took his ability to think. He fell back, slamming into the ground with a weight much greater than his own as his hands clutched his head. He felt his lips mouthing words, throat contracting with sound, but he couldn’t hear what he was saying…he didn’t know what he was saying. All he knew is that his skin felt like it was on fire as he curled in on himself, eyes widening and unfocusing as black inky lines appeared across his ribs bleeding out from somewhere inside him
“F…fr…free…have…have to…”
“Commence Retrieval.”
