“Why didn’t you come find your nephew sooner!?” Finch’s uncle jerked at the comment, the unfamiliar intrusive voice that spoke from his nephew’s body, “Why was he there!? YOU LET THIS HAPPEN TO HIM. YOU LET THIS HAPPEN TO US!” The body screamed back, eyes bright red in rage turning and swiping at the man
“S--…safe…want” he watched as Finch’s eyes flickered from red to black, his hand freezing mid swipe as if it was reaching for him, the two fighting for control, “please….rest…safe…want…” and Finch seemed to be winning.
“L…Liar!” Finch’s body jerked forward, claws digging into the ground, “Going…going to hurt”
“I’m not going to hurt you” Finch’s eyes turned back to him, that familiar black looked at him tiredly, body shaking in pain and exhaustion, “My name is Asema…I am Finch’s uncle…I have been looking for him since the day he disappeared” Asema flinched as Finch’s eyes shifted back to red, “You’re both tired. Hurt. Confused. Please”
“S..safe…home…want to…safe”
“Free…”
“S...safe”
“Don’t touch!” Finch’s body sobbed, halfheartedly hitting at the man as he held the boy to his chest, rocking and shushing him, “Don’t touch! Let…LET go! Let me go! Let..” Finch’s control won out again, sobbing and clutching to his uncle for dear life as he continued to rock him. He hurt…he was tired and frustrated and hurt and all he wanted was for his uncle to take him home and tell him it’s going to be alright. He could feel the older bird glaring at him from inside there now shared consciousness.
“I…I want to go home…”
Asema watched Finch as he sat motionless leaning against him, eyes glazed as he watched the world pass by through the window of the car. He’d stopped crying, but he was still shaking in pain, there wasn’t much Asema could do at the time for that.
“You’re holding your jaw oddly…are your teeth alright?” Finch’s eyes wandered back to the man, opening his mouth as a response rather than talking. His head was swimming with too many thoughts to try and form words right now. “Hum…” Asema’s finger gingerly pushed his lip up more, revealing a small chip on one tooth, “Just a little chip…should heal right up when you get some food in you….are you sure you don’t want to sleep? The house is a fair way off…” Finch shook his head closing his mouth once the hand retracted and gripped the one he had been clutching just a little harder, “I’m not going anywhere” Asema’s thumb was starting to go numb from all the repetitive motion, but it seemed to be just enough reassurance to keep Finch calm, while keeping whatever it was those humans had sealed in him un-irked.
“W..want…” Finch frowned, the demon was trying his best to form words but every time Finch listened to what he was saying, his thoughts would cripple his ability to speak. He just shifted the body instead. That was a feeling Finch would have to get used to. Moving without wanting to move, but the bird was right about doing it, turning to stretch his legs out over the remainder of the seat to give his aching knees a break was a good idea. Asema watched him attentively as he settled again, leaning back more on him as he tried to fight the urge to sleep. The hand gripping Asema’s twitched, fingers uncomfortably still as it picked the older man’s hand up placing it on Finch’s head with an uncomfortable groan as he flexed his free fingers rubbing at his wrist. Already the bird and the boy seemed to be working out some sort of concession on actions “..h…hurts”
“It doesn’t look hurt”
“Hurt…before…sore” Finch was surprised at that. He hadn’t hurt his wrists so then…did some of the bird’s previous damage transfer over when they’d combined?
Inner thoughts said yes.
“M’sorry I wish I’d brought some medication with me…Honestly I ran out so last minute when I heard your call, I didn’t even think, I nearly set myself on fire diving into the car” the man chuckled, “I’m lucky it had gas” Asema rubbed the boy’s head gently, working on some of the matted hair that lay taunt against his scalp as tiny flakes started to fall off the newly grown pinfeathers. Finch sighed in relief as the itching on his scalp slowly subsided leaving Asema covered in a sprinkling of dander. The shared body finally started to relax, eyes drooping as they continued to watch the passing stars.
