When the last bell rang through the halls, everyone was quiet and they whispered to one another about the death of their friend. I sighed at their lost. I felt bad that they have to go through the death of a friend and classmate.
I retrieved my outside shoes from my locker and switched them with the prescribed school shoes the school require I wear inside. Once I had finished tying the laces, I grabbed my backpack and headed for the exit.
The sun was still bright in the sky and it shown down softly through the trees, casting long shadows onto the ground. The court yard in front of the school was beautiful, it even had a water fountain! Students walked around me, obviously the events of what happened to Izume had been somewhat forgotten, because some of the students were laughing and talking happily with one another. I saw the girl, Niida was crying to her friends who comforted her.
I moved around a group of boys and girls that stood right in my path. My legs brushed the rough cement of the water fountain. I was forced to a stop when I bumped into a tall girl, wearing a school uniform and a surgical mask. Her hair was a beautiful dark brown and from what I could see of her face, she was beautiful, her eyes were a striking grey-blue.
“Sorry.” I apologized and I expected her to move on, but she just stared at me intently. Her eyes stared at me with such intensity that I was jumped when she spoke.
“Do I look pretty?” her voice sounded nice and soft, almost like butter.
Her question caught me off guard, “I’m sorry?” I asked her.
She repeated herself, “Do I look pretty?”
It felt like two hands had grabbed my uniform and yank me into the fountain beside me. I struggled to right myself. The water had already soaked me from head to toe and now everyone’s attention was on me as I fumbled to pull myself out of the water fountain. It didn’t take long for someone to burst out in laughter and soon I had the whole school laughing at me as I crawled out of the fountain. Looking around, I noted that the pretty girl with the facial mask was long gone, nowhere to be found.
How did that happen? Did I lean to far over and just fall in? Or did someone bump into me on accident? I thought as I awkwardly pushed through the crowd and as far away from the water fountain as I could.
That's just great. I thought sarcastically to myself and I made my way back to the Luck Cat with discontentment, grumbling to myself.
