“So. How about we stop at the food court for lunch?” Zack suggested. We had been in the mall for about 3 ½ hours, and yet we had only been to about half the stores and our arms were already filled to the brim with my bags.
“Here you take the bags to the car, and I’ll get us lunch.” I say handing him the couple of the bags I was carrying on to the two armfuls of my bags he had.
“Perfect. I’ll be right back.”
“Hey, what do you want?”
“Surprise me.”
When Zack got back I was waiting for him at one of the tables with our food.
“Hey.” Zack said from behind me making me almost jump out of my seat.
“Don’t do that. You know I'm jumpy.” I scolded him after hitting his arm.
“Sorry. So what do we have?” He said sitting in the chair across the table from me.
“For you I got a Quesada and Crunchwrap with a Rootbeer from Taco Bell.” I say sliding a tray towards him.
“It’s like you read my mind. And what did you get?”
“Sushi, with chopsticks from that place.” I say pointing at an outlet with Japanese writing for it’s name. “And fries from Wendy's.”
“What did you get to drink?” Zack asked raising a eyebrow at me.
“ I couldn't find what I wanted so… “ I talked off, for some reason I couldn't look him in the eyes.
“Well knowing how picky you are I got you this.” he says reaching into a bag that I didn't notice before and pulls out a Japanese soda.
“That was exactly what I was looking for. I swear you are in my head.” I looked at him and it seemed as if everything just stopped. Like time was letting this moment last longer and everything but him seemed to fade away, like it was just us in this moment that is lasting longer than a moment. I’ve alwaysed loved Zack and he knows I'm gay but I know he just sees me as a friend. He's my straight crush and right now it’s crushing my heart.
“Hey Trace. What's wrong?” I snap back to reality with Zack’s hand on my shoulder.
“Huh, What?”
“You totally zoned out. Are you ok?” Zack asks with a very concerned and slightly knowing look on his face.
“Yeah I’m fine, I guess I'm just hungry we haven't started to eat yet.” I feel so bad for lying to his face, but I can't tell him what really just happened.
“Well then let's eat.” He sees unwrapping his Crunch Rap.
“Yeah.” I replied wishing I could just tell him but knowing if I did it would ruin our friendship.
“You sure you're alright?” He asks his brown eyes peering into my sole.
“Yeah. Just hungry.” I say using my chopsticks to pick up a french fry.
