Celeste stood in absolute darkness. She had instinctively jumped out of the glass bubble into a defensive stance. If the robot was going to kill her, it should have the decency of giving her a fair fight. She should have expected no better from a Robot who knew nothing of honor. “What a dirty move, show yourself!” Celeste spoke into the darkness. She flicked her wrists twice and light emanated from the palms of her hands. The warm light glowed softly casting gentle shadows over the smooth furniture, the frozen robot and the hard planes of a face that belonged to a random tall man.
Celeste let out a shriek. There was a strange man standing next to a clean new hole cut into her bedroom window. Without thinking Celeste threw her hands outward in his direction. A ball of fire formed in rapid momentum towards the intruder. He looked surprised but still managed to deflect the burning sphere. It dissolved onto a desk behind him singing a good part of one corner. If Celeste wasn’t worried before, now she had reasons to be. This guy was also a magic user.
“Calm down, I won’t hurt you,” the man said. Celeste was pretty sure that was the sort of thing that someone would say to get your guard down before they attack. Celeste decided to take up a more aggressive stance instead. “My parents are Enforcement Officers of the fifth rank, this house is secure.” Celeste decide scare tactics might work better, "They would be alerted immediately of this intrusion” Technically the house was very secure and had many alarm systems in place. Technically. “I am aware, which is why I turned off the power,” the man chuckled. He saw right through her bluff. She had thought that since he was clearly an Outlander, he may not know much about advanced Alenian home security.
You could easily tell an Outlander from a normal citizen by how dirty and tattered their clothes were. This man’s boots were thick, his jacket too but both had holes worn into them. He stuck out the holy arm of his jacket towards Celeste. “My name is Law. I didn’t expect to meet an Elemental magic user in a place like this,” he said with a polite smile. Celeste was still sure that this was all a trick. Outlanders were known to be liars and thieves. One of those assumptions was obviously true, Law broke into her bedroom, who was to say that the other assumption wasn’t also true. “My Grandmother is a high Elemental mage,” Celeste said confidently. You do Not want to mess with me.”
