Shirome is about a boy named Axel, who is a descendant of an ancient race called (you guessed it) The Shirome. The story follows him and his two friends, Seto and Yumi, along with his guardian/father figure, Levi. Together they travel around their world locating keys to unlock the gate created by the Shirome, which is rumored to grant ultimate power to the one who opens it.
