They left the place with quiet steps, through the market. Following the flow they didn’t bum into anyone in the crowd. Though they tried to be invisible, with their frame and looks people often turned to take a look at them.
They looked alike, had the same frame and height. This caused Renee to be taller than the average girls. They were still young so they can be mistaken for each other. To not let that happen, the girl wore a kannagi (priestess) hair style.
Reaching the house they heard coughing from inside. Christopher hastened his steps and kicked the door open.
On a bed at the window, laid a beautiful woman with exhausted expression.
Chris quickly went to her side, lifted her head and made her drink some water from the mug next to the bed. Water slid down her lips as she wasn’t able to drink all of it. Renee came closer and wiped the remains with a clean cloth.
" Thank you son, daughter. "
The woman's unkempt hair fell onto her shoulders as she turned toward her children. Even then her beauty and facial features were comparable to sculpted master works. In her emerald eyes they could see her love toward them and her constant fight to live on. However, they saw her unease and grief too, that she tried to hide.
Renee used a gentle tone to prove her mother, who was aleady very tired.
" Mom. Please, give us permission to go into father’s room. I… I dropped one of my daggers inside…"
" To the basement? "
Her eyes wide open, reflected fear in them and some resignation.
The children nodded as they observed their mother.
" No. I said it so many times. That is a place you are forbidden to enter. "
She turned her head as her whisper died down and she fell asleep.
Renee reached to shake her awake when Chris grabbed get wrist.
" Let her sleep. "
His commanding tone left no place for arguments.
The girl stepped outside while fuming followed by her brother.
Renee threw herself onto the grass and tried relaxing. Chris leaned toward her while helplessly smiling.
" What now? "
The girl shut her eyes then shouted while sitting up.
" We’re going down!!! "
Bang!
Their heads smashed into each other and both of them cringed in pain.
His eyes shut with tears he tried complaining…
However, before he could open his mouth, his sister was already nowhere in sight.
" Why don’t you ever wait for me?! "
He stomped the ground wenting his anger and mumbling without anyone to hear…
