{ Experiment F.O.X. }
The constant haunting howls of the machines surrounds the girl on the operating table who is strapped down by leather restraints. There are various machines around her, monitoring her breathing, heart rate, and her vitals. Nothing can go wrong in order for the transfusion to work. Her I.V. drips a glowing purple liquid down into the water, that goes does down through a small cylindrical tube connecting to the needle that leads directly into her veins. Her hair has been altered into a silver hue, contaminated by the mysterious liquid, changing her very body from both within and out. The room she is in resembles a doctors office, white walls with white tile floors to match. The room is tainted with the scent of chemicals. The noxious odor alone should be warning enough that no one is allowed through the double doors stating, "Caution!" in big black letters that leading into this secret room.
The whirring of the security camera focuses in on her, recording every single move she makes, mostly just a head turn or a finger twitch. Nothing the doctors haven't already seen on the live video footage they have been studying for years since the experiment had begun.
Her appointed doctor makes her way through the double doors, and stands next to her bed. The woman's large rounded stomach is covered by a white lab coat, which looks like a large helium filled balloon that at any time could burst at the seams. Her dark hair is shoulder length, and she struggles to support the weight on her swollen ankles and 4 inch heels that are assigned with every uniform. The only splash of color is the red "X" sewn into her jacket, it is the color of human blood, a deep crimson red. Looking at it through the security camera could almost make the X come alive and have a pulse. The doctor smiles down at the girl on the table and gently brushes her hair into soft silver ringlets causing a wave through the hair to begin.
"Alice," She begins with a soft whisper. " I wonder what color your eyes will be. After so many injections the doctors have predicted multiple possibilities of colors, splashes of rainbow tints covering your iris. I believe they're wrong, I think your eyes will become one solid color to show to everyone that you are different. Something vivid enough to draw attention."
The girl on the operating table turns her head and her fingers begin to twitch. But her eyes remained closed and she settles back into her former position, her slow movements stopping just as quickly as they had started.
"Alice, the doctors say you aren't strong enough yet to open your eyes. But, I disagree with them. I believe you can open your eyes, but choose not to do so. No matter how many injections you have received nothing can fix that stubbornness inside of you which you use as a weapon against us. Refusing to open your eyes, or speak to any of us. I know you can hear me and the rest of us that come in here to talk with you. But when you are ready you will awaken."
The woman says as small laugh escapes her throat. She carefully finishes brushing the girl’s hair and steps away from her, very careful not to push her stomach against anything. The woman takes the brush and places it into a drawer in the cabinet on the opposite end of the room.
Suddenly the machines begin to beep rapidly, then cease to beep at all. The fluorescent overhead lights begin to dim, sending the windowless room into blackness. The static generating through the security camera causes it to go out completely. The doctor can hear the room’s automatic lock-down initiating, as the entire facility is overcast with a black wave of darkness. This shocking moment causes the woman to hastily grab a syringe and a flashlight. Proceeding to the operating table she stabs the syringe into the I.V, shooting a burst of a glowing green tinted liquid into the tube, causing it to mix with the purple liquid.
"Alice, our power grid must have went down again. Don't worry, I have injected your I.V with the "M" medicine for pain. We both should be fine, I'm sure the doors will open anytime now." The woman says in a more panicked tone, staring the doors down intensely.
A noise is heard outside of the doors, screams of pain and agony coming from the control room and then gunshots. Then an eerie silence falls down throughout the entire building, only the sound of a gun being reloaded and the shell casings falling against the floor. The sound of rough footsteps approach the room slowly. The doctor quickly begins to unstrap the girl on the table. She attempts to lift her off of the operating table, straining to do so with the weight of the girl and her stomach bearing down on her back.
Suddenly, her stomach begins to pain with contractions, and she is forced to put the girl back down on the table. The doctor struggles to walk over to the medical cot in front of the operating table. Her hands feeling along the wall for the cot, as she presses herself against the wall.
The footsteps get louder as they slowly approach, drawing closer and closer to the doors. The doctor grabs her stomach, and begins to grind her teeth.
"You can't come out right now, not in the middle of this blackout. You aren't due for another two weeks." The doctor whispers as she slowly lifts her legs up onto the cot. The doors swing open, and her eyes widen in horror at who she sees, her stomach begins to contract tighter and the air in the room is so thick with tension it becomes difficult for her to breathe.
Suddenly the owner of the footsteps lifts his gun, aiming directly at her. She can hear the clicking of the night vision goggles he is wearing, and the safety of the gun being clicked off. She clenches her fists as the contractions in her stomach begin to become only minutes apart.
"Please," The doctor begs with a pleading tone in her voice, "Please, don't kill me. I'm pregnant, and my baby is about to born any minute. Please don't kill me, I will do whatever you want."
The gunman just cackles, throwing his head back while his wild and unruly hair follows suit. His black leather gloves tighten around the gun as the other four members of his team step through the double doors. She can hear his knuckles pop as he tightens his grip around the gun. Her ears strain to hear the movement of the others entering into the room. Their footsteps are almost silent until one of them accidentally bumps against a cabinet, causing a creaking noise to break their silence and give them away.
"This lady here says she's pregnant, which will make her death so much more satisfying to me." The gunman says, ready at any second to pull the trigger and watch the bullet impact her skin, causing her crimson blood to splash onto the white untainted sheets of the cot, forever staining them red.
"Why would they have a pregnant nurse with the girl?!" A girl member of the team says. The doctor swallows, as the pain in her stomach begins to become unbearable. The gunman snorts, as he begins to laugh harder.
"Because they needed a pregnant nurse for the girl to create a natural bond with. The girl can sense she is pregnant and means her no harm." The gunman explained.
"It's too bad that in just a few minutes, the nurse won't get to see her precious experiment come to life right before her very eyes." The gunman said as he stepped forward to put the metal of the gun against the doctor's forehead.
The doctor felt the tears welling in her eyes, but she fought them back with every ounce of strength she had as the pressure inside her stomach began to push harder against her skin. Causing her skin to feel as if it would be ripped open at any moment, and her child would breathe its first breath of life. The cold metal of the gun had made her forehead start to sweat, and the clicking of the man's night vision goggles sounded like a ticking bomb just waiting to explode.
Suddenly, the lights come on and the machines begin to beep around the girl on the operating table, and the silence that had been there moments before creeps away as the lights in the room come back on. The gunman along with the others quickly shield their faces with their black leather hooded jackets. They all looked identical, the leather jackets, the leather gloves, and on the shoulder of their jacket, they all bared the same crimson red "L", the symbol of whatever organization they were from. She memorizes the ones in front of her, as the girl on the operating table hands begin to twitch and her head begins to roll back and forth slowly.
The doctor quickly seizing the opportunity, steps away from the gunman and over to the girl. Her fingers shake nervously as she begins to check her own pulse and operate the buttons on the machines, getting them functioning properly once again. To her surprise, the gunman lowers his gun and she can feel his eyes burning a hole through her as he glares at her harshly.
"I am not a nurse; I am the doctor overseeing the F.O.X experiment. I have been assigned to her and to the other two experiments the S.X. experiment and the L.F.X experiment. Now whatever business you had here is over with. There is nothing you can do without the security camera's capturing your faces." The doctor states as she glances at the I.V bag, hoping the mixture of the green fluid had already mixed deep within the purple fluid and had begun to enter the bloodstream of the girl on the operating table.
"You see, our plan does not include security camera's, it only includes an exchange." The gunman says as he takes aim at the security camera's cord and severed the machine from its point on the wall, and splits its chord into two pieces with a single shot.
Then he grabs the doctor, and harshly puts one hand on her stomach then one hand on the girl on the operating table.
"What are you doing to me?!" The doctor asks, as the pressure in her stomach ceases and her knees begin to feel wobbly beneath her. Her vision begins to blur as her fingers twitch uncontrollably, and before long she can feel a rush of dizziness in her head that is overpowering her.
"Doctor, I am doing to you what you and the other freaks in here failed to do. You failed to give the girl on the operating table, something very crucial to her awakening. You forgot to give her enough life force to become strong enough to make her awaken. But don't worry; I am sure the life force from your unborn child is enough for all of the experiments to awaken." The gunman says, as his palms begin to glow with an unnatural light, and the girl's skin on the operating table begins to have the same overflow of natural light floating just inches above her, the pores of her skin absorbing the light like it is oxygen.
"You're a monster!" The doctor cries as she feels his hand leave her stomach, and she falls to her knees. Her knee caps being bruised by the hard impact on the concrete floor, she takes when she falls onto the white tiles.
The man smiles, and relaxes his gun back in his hand as he makes eye contact with the doctor. His team members just watch quietly and one by one begin to go around the room and destroy all the machines, and filing cabinets full of the doctor’s research. He grins at the doctor and lifts her chin forcefully to face him, with his night vision goggles focusing in onto her face.
"Instead of a monster, try a very well trained Harvester." The man says as he pulls the trigger and the bullet impacts the doctor's skull, her blood stains her white lab coat, and the white tiles as her blood slowly spilled out onto the floor. Her eyes still wide with horror from the moment the word Harvester had left his mouth. The man looks to his team, they all stand around waiting for him give them an order. He grins at them, his goggles clicking as he focuses in on each of their faces.
"Set this entire place on fire. Leave no trace of any evidence of her records, or the fact we were here. Be sure to burn this doctor's body to the point of being unrecognizable. Is all of that understood?" The man commands of them. They all look startled at him, and their eyes widen at his words as well. The man retrieves a cigarette from his pocket and his lighter. Placing the cigarette in his mouth, he cups his hand over the top of it and lights it. The flick of the lighter is the only sound that can be heard at this point, everyone in the room stands stiffly in the same position they were in when he made his objective very clear for them to follow.
"What about the girl?" One of the teenage boys apart of his team ask slowly. The man with the goggles shrugs, and puts his lighter back into his pocket then he retrieves his gun from its holster. He unloads it, and one shell casing falls to the floor, causing the loud wind chime noise again to spread across the room.
"What about her? She will be just fine. Once the facility is ablaze, and we are long gone. She will awaken and her new life will begin." The man answers to the boy who asked him. He watches as that member of his team continues ahead and begins ripping pages from the research files, and throwing each one into the floor. The rest of his team continue to stand there stiffly, each of their eyes shifting to the person next to them then back to the floor.
Finally breaking the silence of the room, the girl who had asked about the nurse earlier comes forward toward him.
"The orders you have given us, aren't what the boss told us we should do. We were instructed to leave everything just the way it was and to dispose of the doctor's body and the other bodies of the one's we killed in the control room. What you are instructing us to do, it's cruel and very disrespectful of our boss." The girl says to him as her eyes stare into his goggles. If she could see through them, she would've known to have stopped talking, to be silent, before her mouth sealed her fate for her.
But she couldn't see through those goggles, and the man lifted his gun and shot her at point blank range through her forehead. Her body falls down next to the corpse of the doctor, and her dark red blood mixes with the doctor's blood. The white tiles can no longer be seen. The blood spilling onto the tiles have overtaken their previous white colors and stained them red.
The man looks to the rest of the team, he exhales a smoke ring into the air.
"Does anyone else have any problem with what I said?" He asks unloading his gun releasing the shell casing of the bullet to fall to the floor, and sink beneath the river of blood near his feet.
