Warrior's POV:
I manage to get a rabbit looking for shelter from the snow. I saw movement through the storm and grabbed the thing at the end of the quickly disappearing footprints. It screamed and tried to run away but as soon as I had my hand on it I reached with the other hand and snapped its neck. It may be my food, but I don't want to see it suffer. I carry it back to the cave and feel a chill roll down my spine with what awaits me.
There are footprints in the mouth of the cave leading to the back where the light of a fire dances on the walls. I stand in the mouth of the cave and sniff the air. Four adolescents, all demons. One is a fire mage, he smells the oldest. The next is an earth mage he can make rocks and dirt do his bidding. He could've made them shelter but he doesn’t have enough energy. The next one is a water mage. It's not the first time someone has taken refuge in my home, but most are hostile once they see, I'm incomplete.
The youngest one is my age and he can bend light. It's the first time I've smelled someone who had similar powers as me, so I'm not sure, but he doesn't smell like any other element. None of them appear to be threatening but I keep my hunting knife out just in case. My hunting knife is a knife that I materialized when I first started tanning. It has a curved blade the size of my forearm and an antler handle.
I hold it backwards along my forearm, ready to slash at anything that might jump out at me. I silently walk towards the fire, the rabbit in my left hand all but forgotten. I look around the corner and observe them. They are huddled around the fire bundled in my pelts and shivering. They don't seem accustomed to travel or extreme weather. It doesn’t seem that they’ve noticed me, but I’m careful to keep my presence hidden. The eldest, is the farthest from me, has dark brown hair and green eyes, his lips are blue at the moment and his nose is running, but his features are strong and appealing. The rock mage made a small pit around the fire, it's crude but works for its purpose. He has black hair and gray eyes, his mouth has more of a red color than his brothers, but his nose is red and running all the same. His features are sharper and he has an intelligent air about him. The water mage is struggling to make his magic work properly with how cold he is. I silently send a little energy his way and he can control his power better. They don’t notice I’m the one who sent the energy, which is good, but shows how pampered their lives were. His shivering calms down and his teeth quiet. He has blonde hair and blue eyes and looks like a prince from a fairytale. He sends the water from their clothes into the air as vapor, helping them breath. The youngest looks the most dangerous, he can bend light but belongs in the shadows. He has silver hair and his back is to me, but the air around him screams power. I hear their stomachs grumble and retreat around the corner. I materialize a metal pot from the shadows of the cave and place the rabbit inside. I lay my ears flat against my head, keeping them hidden and go back to the corner. I push the pot across the floor towards the youngest. The three older ones jump and look up, while the youngest calmly reaches behind him and grabs the pot. He’s known I was here for a while.
I reach out a shaky hand and remove an illusion in front of a cubby in the wall. Inside are roots and anything else I stocked up for the winter. I pull my hand back once they look. All they can see are my eyes and the top of my head, so they don’t know I’m incomplete yet. The three oldest look at me suspiciously while the youngest stands and walks over to get what’s needed. He grabs three carrots, some other roots, and a bunch of herbs. He grabs some potatoes too. Those carrots and potatoes were difficult to come by, but they need them more than I do. He walks back and sits down with his haul. His face is impassive and calm, but if the water mage looked like a fairytale prince, he looks like a demon king. He may be the youngest but there’s no doubt he’s the most mature.
He holds his hand out behind him waiting for something. I stare at him for a moment and then jump slightly and step forward just enough to hand him my knife. I hand it to him from the blade so he doesn’t cut himself. He looks at the blade and nods as if to say, “This’ll do.” I retreat back around the corner and he gets to work chopping the vegetables and herbs. He places the rabbit next to him and puts the cut-up ingredients in the pot. The water mage adds some water and they place the pot on the fire. The youngest turns to me and without getting up, holds the knife and rabbit out to me. I tilt my head at him confused and he smirks.
“We don’t have your skill with skinning animals.” He says in a rough voice. He sounds like a king too. His voice is powerful and confident, but gentle at the same time. I slowly step forward, they can see most of me now and the older three gasp. I grab the knife and rabbit and quickly retreat around the corner. They must have seen my tail, I thought it was camouflaged pretty well in the grey wolf pelt I have on as a skirt, or the grizzly bear belt I have on as a cloak that is tied to the red fox pelt I have on as a top.
