Once the bus finally reaches the city part of town, it stops at a nearby bus stop, dropping the passengers off. Mellisa remarks that they made it, and she unhooks her seat belt and drags Sonia off of the bus. The town mall, better know as, The Hilltop Skylines, is a rather large mall. In fact, it’s a pretty popular mall to both the local townsfolk and its visitors.
“I just know that we’ll find something in here for the talent show, right Sonia?” Mellisa asks cheerfully as the two walk across the street, through the mall’s parking lot, and enter the mall itself.
“Right…” Sonia replies while scratching her arm, “Do you even know what we ARE going to do, exactly?”
“Nope! But that’s the joy of brainstorming, right?”
“Mellisa, when you’re about to do something for a contest, or… anything for that matter! The point is to always be prepared. You won’t know what you’re gonna get into,” Sonia explains with her eyes closed and a finger up in the air. However, when she opens her eyes, she finds that Mellisa had disappeared. Surprised, Sonia whisks her head around, looking for the goofy bestie. She then turns to find her staring deeply into a store. Sonia sighs and walks to Mellisa to see what’s up. Mellisa stands with her face pressed against the glass with mouth agape. When Sonia asks why Mellisa ran off, the goofy girl then grabs Sonia by the collar of her shirt and directs her to what she is enamored by.
“I know what I wanna do for the talent show….” Mellisa states with a awe and wonder. The thing that’s gotten Mellisa so enthralled was a model of a one of the floats from last year’s Harvest Moon parade.
“You wanna build a toy model?” Sonia asks.
“Nooooooo…. I wanna build a float!” Mellisa corrects, still staring and smiling at the model, “It’s been my life’s dream to have my own float, and this is EXACTLY what I wanna do at the talent show on Monday!” A shocked and exasperated look splatters on Sonia’s face accompanied by the sound of breaking glass. Sonia then shouts with disbelief, “How are we gonna build a float in two days?! We don’t even have the materials!” Mellisa pulls her face from out of the glass, pats Sonia’s back and replies, “Sonia, Sonia, Sonia. Anymore worries like that, and I would have confused you for my Bestie.” Mellisa giggles for a bit then continues, “Granny Jojo has an old vehicle we can use, so all we need is the materials and it’ll be the best float in the entire town! Maybe even the whole world!”
“A float? Hah! Why if that isn’t so the most LAMEST idea a moron could ever come up with!” A voice snookered. Sonia and Mellisa turn around to find Cindy, and her no-good diva cronies, Chloe, Claire, and Cassandra, sucking on lollipops and looking down on the two girls. Our ginger girl was peeved that Cindy was in the mall at this time of the day, however, Mellisa happily greeted the girls with hugs and smiles, regardless of how weirded out they were by it. The cheery girl then asks, “Cindy! It is nice to see you here! Are you and your friends going to attend the Town Fair on Monday?” Cindy shot back, declaring, “Tsk… attending? Mellisa, I am the mayor’s D.A.U.G.H.T.E.R. I don’t attend town fairs, I OWN them. Besides, I don’t see why my daddy needs to spend my inheri- eh-... spend time with the townsfolk making these dumb fairs every year anyway. He really should be spending all his focus on me.”
“And maybe sending you to boarding school while he’s at it…” Sonia muttered to herself.
“Well, well, well...” Cindy called out, “Seems to me like Potato-Face is trying to grow some skin!” The superfluous diva and her three cronies chortled and heckled Sonia for her comment. Mellisa laughed as well, but only because everyone else was laughing. Except that Mellisa ended up laughing longer than the other girls, making them stare at her until she stopped. Once the… gawky little moment of laughter cleared up, Cindy pulls Mellisa to her and utters, “Take it from me, Melly. I might not like you per say, but eehhhh…. Watch out for ol’ Potato-Face there. Don’t want you catchin’ any of her weirdness, ya’ know what I mean?” The other cronies concurred with Cindy while in earshot of Sonia. Feeling harassed as it is already, Sonia walks past Cindy and her cronies while grabbing Mellisa by the arm and pulling her away from them.
“Bye, fellow friends! See you at the Fair!” Mellisa waves at the four high-school divas. Sonia drags Mellisa around the corner and towards the central part of the mall.
“What was that about?!” Sonia thought to herself while pulling Mellisa, “Laughing?! Buddying up with those… those… JERKS! It’s like she completely disregarded me back there!” Sonia didn’t want to be the bad guy to Mellisa, so instead of confronting her like Julianna would, she sighs, shrugging the whole ordeal off and decided to ask Mellisa what they need for their float. Mellisa suggests that they need outfits. Anything they could use to make a costume for their newfound float. She began to think of having a fantasy theme, with a princess, a warrior, and a giant snake beast of some kind. Although Sonia knew where to go to get some costumes and fabric, Mellisa continued yammering on with ideas. Sonia looked up at the bangs of her head and contemplated for if when this day will ever end as they walk into a teen-centric clothing store. Unbeknownst to her, a creature lurks… leaving destruction where it goes...
