“Being so obsessed that you lose your girlfriend and lose your job.” Just as she said that, I arrive at the house. “I’m coming in,” I say that as I click off my phone, put it in my pocket and grab my keys to open the door. As it creaks open, I step inside and close the door. “Welcome back! Now start cooking!” I hear a familiar loud voice say. I smirk as I stroll into the usual living room with a couch, coffee table in the center and a TV that hanged in the front of it.
Hana sat down at the counter, having her usual set of cards laid out. “You know, if you took more lessons seriously, you could cook on your own,” I said as I walk over, bend down and hug her from behind. She was a small girl with blonde short hair, with colorless eyes, wearing a duck frilly dress. A green bow hung in her hair as she squirmed in my clutches.
“I’m young and blind! Why waste my time learning to cook when I’ve got a brother who can do it for me,” she shouts and jabs my stomach. I wince and quickly let go, rolling to the floor and howling in pain. She huffs and blatantly pokes the air. “Big baby, I didn’t jab you that hard.” I wobble from the floor and slowly sit up, glaring at her. “It hurt like hell! What kind of blind middle school kid are you? Trying to clobber your brother after he gives you a hug?”
She waves her hands in the air and into a karate symbol. “I have to protect myself from your stupidity.” She then smiles brightly. “Besides, the tarot cards say that violence shall bring you closer!” I get up and click my tongue as I walk into the kitchen. “You and your stupid cards.” I then start washing my hands and taking out the necessary ingredients to cook.
“How do you feel about gumbo soup and rice?” I say as I take out some veggies to cut. “I’d say you are the wisest oh dear brother.” I smirk after hearing that. I place on the gumbo and after 30 minutes or so, it’s done. I fixed up a bowl and brought it to the living room. “It’s ready,” I say as I place a bowl in front of her on the coffee table.
She smiles but keeps her blind gaze forward as I hand her a spoon. “How was work?” I frown at her question and scratch my head. Silence begins to form as I don't instantly answer. “Seriously bad,” she asks, breaking the tension. “I mean,” I sit down on the couch and turn on the TV with a remote. “We have a new co-worker. And by the looks of her, I’m already concerned about the shop.”
“But it’s her first day and you just met her. Give it some time at least! I can’t judge people by how they look.” She then placed the bowl down and touched her abbreviated sutra cards. “The cards have spoken brother, this is a sign of good!” I huff as I grab her bowl and spoon, heading to the kitchen. “Seems like a new hassle.” I say out loud.
I then walk back, sit down and take out my sketch book. “And what might be the other hassle in your life?” She asks sternly. “You and Dai are bad enough on my plate-ouch!” Right after saying that sentence, Hana spun around and sliced the pencil I had out of my hand. It poked my eye in the process. “You can say what you will about your ‘girlfriend’ but do not slump her in with me.” She huffed and starts to fan her hand in the air at me.
“Now, go upstairs and post up another one of your cat drawings. I need my space to concentrate.” I glare at her as I close my jabbed eye and pick up the pencil, taking up everything in my hands. I would’ve had a rebuttal, but I knew well to let her have a small piece of mind. She gets especially mad when Dai is mentioned, it’s like she hates her.
I guess it’s just a girl thing. I head upstairs to give her some space. I walk into my room, throw my stuff to the side and crash on my bed. I had a pretty clean room. At least I had to keep it clean. One huge bed that could fit two people, one closet, two desk drawers-one for drawing, the other for a lamp shade and a window to the side. I rolled over and roll up the windows curtains to see the moon, shining in the night.
I smile faintly as I think about the moon kitten. I wonder, what would it take to catch it? To get its attention? What gender is it? As I had all these questions on my mind, I suddenly get a text message from my phone. I dig into my pocket and quickly look through it. It was a text from Dai. I sit up and read it.
“Hey! ^_^ I’m picking you up tomorrow morning~! <3!”
I sigh and text back.
“Great, see you around the usual morning time ”
After sending the message I groan, remembering that tomorrow was another day of art school. I don’t dread it, in fact It’s part of my passion, but sometimes I wish for something different. I stare at the moon, thinking that, I have something holding me back. What could it be that I’m missing? Thinking long and hard about this, was always difficult for me. I continue to stare intently, not wanting to take my eyes off it, that small creature crossing my mind. It’s you that I’m missing, isn’t it? “...I’m going to get you to notice me, and when that happens I’ll thank you properly.” As I say this, I drift off into a peaceful slumber. Feeling the gentle breeze of the night through my open window.
