I miss the.... Sorry this was going to be a lovely inner monologue about Damselflies, not to be confused with the Dragonfly. Damselflies for anyone who doesn't know the difference, are much smaller then their similar sounding counter parts, they have bright exoskeletons, like neon blue and purple, and if that still doesn't help, they are like the Chibi version of dragonflies.
It was going to be a really cute and meaningful passage I was going to tie it in with the summer time. I was going to reminisce about the summer camp I used to go to. How I would just paddle board and sit and watch all the damselflies. I would talk about the brave damselflies that would sit on my toes or legs or even my knees as I paddled across the lake.
There was going to be some deep stuff about the damselfly looking up at me and I looking down on it, wondering if we were thinking the same thoughts or different thoughts, or if the damselfly thought anything at all. Stuff like, "maybe he (the damselfly) doesn't think at all. Maybe he just lives life by the moment..." But NO. That moment is RUINED.
Why is it ruined you may ask? Well not even a sentence into my writing, did I notice my glasses bent up and crooked on the floor beside my bed. It was like they had decided they were a useless piece of paper that had hated its contents and in turn crumpled itself up. Well, this "useless piece of paper," cost me upwards of 300 dollars. Probably more I can't remember, but it doesn't matter now.
My sentimental and nostalgic heart suddenly turned into a fiery rage. I quickly jumped off my bed, like it too was engulfed in flames. I grabbed my glasses off the floor and held it gingerly in my hands. I wanted to kick myself, or bang my head into a wall repeatedly. This was the third pair of glasses I have broken. Every time I buy a new pair, it's only a matter of time before I start buying a new roll of duct tape. Yes, I said duct tape. This stuff was expensive. In the movies and T.V. shows they always show the center of the glasses with tape, but in reality its the hinges that you have to look out for. For years, I constantly had to put duct tape on my glasses. And yes I've tried hot glue too, but in the summer that stuff melts. I looked down at my newest pair hoping that they wouldn't have to suffer the same tacky fate.
I knew my only option was to try and reshape them, but it came at a risk. If I used too much force the hinges would snap off, not enough force, and I'd have to keep my head tilted for the next few years in order to see straight. I started to pry them back together as best as I could. For the most part they are alright, but the left hinge is definitely messed up. I know I'll have to be extra careful with them in the future.
Well... I've calmed down now. I removed all the curses I started out with too. You know, to keep this series PG. But the moment is still ruined and damselflies will probably never get written because I might accidentally find something else I almost broke. Fun Fact: The Damselfly larva has a long narrow body with three feather-like tails which are its gills. They are also predators and can live up to three years.
