Chara glanced at the clock on the wall. She had an hour before she had to report for sentry duty. That meant, if she didn’t want to be late, she would have to leave in half an hour.
“Azy, do you think this will last?”
Asriel looked up from his sandwich.
“What do you mean?” he asked, confused.
“This peace with the humans. Do you think it will last?”
Asriel thought for a while, leaving his sandwich sitting on his plate.
“I hope it will. We aren't doing anything to provoke them. As far as i can tell, They aren't planning on attacking us anytime soon. But I still worry. They aren’t being as kind as we had hoped. Clearly the conflict was never forgotten, and we are feeling the effect of that.”
Chara nodded.
“Frisk mentioned that every day they are trying to negotiate even less rights for us. They actually tried to make us not count as citizens of the human world. Frisk actually helped put a stp to it, but still. They obviously don’t want us here. The question is, how far will they go?”
Asriel sighed, and stared at his plate.
“I just hope we will be okay.”
***
Frisk walked out of the council chamber. It was a langer, one roomed building, sitting on a hill between the monster and human towns. It was here that the council met everyday, to make decisions concerning the future of the new town. And here, that the humans constantly tried to discourage the monster from staying, and take away the rights that had been decided when they first came to the surface.
No matter what they did, the humans would not give up on trying to get them to return to the underground. They gave dozens of arguments, and when those failed, they tried to convince the council to give up their rights. So far, no attempt had been successful, but it seemed like it was only a matter of time. The meeting that day had very nearly turned violent, how fiercely the two groups argued. A human had even pulled a dagger, before being restrained by his fellow humans.
“Child?”
Frisk turned to see Toriel coming up behind her. The former queen was dressed in a simple white and purple dress, ending just barely above the ground. An ever present spark of kindness filled her eyes. They had remained close since ascending to the surface.
“Are you okay? You seemed worried in the council chamber.”
Frisk signed, glancing back at the carved wooden door she and toriel had just passed through. She thought a moment before supplying an answer.
“Every time we have a meeting with the humans, it gets worse. They clearly don’t want us here. If it gets much worse, they may resort to violence. And if they do….. I don’t know if we'll make it.”
Toriel leaned over, pulling Frisk into an affectionate hug.
“My child, you shouldn’t worry about such things. No matter what, we will make it through it. We are all here for eachother, Sans, Papyrus, Undyne, even Chara. We support you, and you support us. If we continue to do that, we shall make it through anything.”
Frisk smiled, a small hopeful smile.
“Thanks Toriel. Everything has just been so strange since we returned to the surface. Everyone finally is getting a chance to be happy, but I still have to wonder how long it will last.”
“Don’t worry about that. In fact, I have some news, to take your mind off of such matters.”
Toriel leaned down, and began whispering in Frisks ear. When she was done, Frisk’s eyes were wide and she was smiling.
“Your serious?”
Toriel nodded.
“Took long enough I mean, you two have been dating for, what? 3 months?”
Toril hushed Frisk, a grin on her face.
“Shush, my child. I want it to be a surprise for the other’s”
“Can I tell Chara and Asriel?”
Toriel sighed.
“I suppose. In fact, won’t they be expecting you?”
Frisk looked down at the watch san’s had given to her as a gag gift. It was shaped, and modeled, on Sans’ head. It must have been a custom, though who who make it Frisk had no clue. She wore it mainly as a joke, although having a watch was very useful. She saw that Toriel was right.
“Shoot. I was supposed to be home half an hour ago! Sorry Mom, I got to go!”
And with that she raced off down the hill, toward the distant lights of the town below. Toriel smiled, thinking of Frisk's last statement. Every once and awhile, Frisk would still call her ‘mom’. She didn’t mind it, as Toriel liked to think of herself as a kind of surrogate mother to Frisk. The child, although in reality She was more than 16 at this point, had no one else to fill that role. Toriel was happy to step up.
Frisk hurried onto town, saying hurried hi’s to all the monsters she knew.
If i don’t get home soon, She thought, Chara and Asriel will eat all the food.
As she turned onto her street, Frisk noticed that the lights were all off in their house.
They must be at San’s for dinner. I’ll head over there Once I’ve taken care of my stuff.
Taking out her key, Frisk unlocked the door. As she went to hang up her jacket, something soft and horned tackled her from behind.
“Ah! Asriel! What the heck?!”
Asriel laghed. “You looked like you could use some cheering up! I was just coming back here to grab some knives. Did you know that Sans and Papyrus have none in their house?”
Frisk grinned. “I did actually. Sans mentioned it once. But why do you need knives? If your over at their house for dinner, then isn't Paps making spaghetti?”
“No. Sans is in a really good mood for some reason. He even decided to cook!’
Frisk raised an eyebrow. “Does Sans even know how to cook?”
“Apparently. He’s making steak!”
Despite being quite animal-like, Asriel had no problem eating meat. He stayed away from goat products, though.
Frisk laughed again. “I’ll be there in a minute, ok? I just have to put my stuff away.”
“Okay!” said Asriel, heading toward the kitchen.
Frisk smiled. Everyone was so happy up here. It was good to see them all with a smile on their faces.
