Prologue
Tap, tap, tap, tap.
“Stop!” A voice screeches. The echoes of running footsteps sound throughout the museum. A figure with a long, black cloak and a white mask turns the corner of the hallway and takes off towards the next corridor. The museum night guard, Luna, makes chase after this figure, losing her breath quick. She hasn’t needed to run after someone for her whole career as a night guard. All she’s had to do is tell drunks to leave or drag a disruptive family out the doors. Nobody’s ever dared to steal the MoonStone, the only object holding the world together. With this gone, we’re ALL fucked. Luna thinks bitterly. Luna finally reaches the masked figure, but with a sharp turn made by this figure, Luna slips and whacks her head against the slick tile. Luna watches helplessly as the figure makes it out the doors, turning to smile an eerie smile.
“God dammit! Do you realize what you’re doing?!” Luna shrieks, holding herself up on her elbows after many failed attempts at standing. The masked figure does nothing but leave the doors, the smile never escaping her lips. Luna lays there in defeat. If all of the mistakes she made didn’t fire her, this one will. Luna stands and braces herself against the wall.
