A Tale of Warriors, Demon, and Wiccan - Book I

Chapter IV - Responsibility and Failure

Chapter IV - Responsibility and Failure

Jan 16, 2018

Bellator saunters back to his home, opens the door, drops the wheat on the wooden floor and pops open a bottle of whiskey. Fantastic as usual. He heads up to his room, sets his bottle on the dresser, and flops onto his bed. A sense of panic overcomes him as he notices the amulet is gone.

“NO NO NO NO! This isn't right, where is it, where is it!”

After a frantic search throughout his house he sits down on his couch and holds his head in his hands, before realizing Veronica must've taken it, and the emotion of failure turns to annoyance.

“Fucking witches.”

Then a knock comes at the door.

“Who is it?”

“Your king, Thor.”

Bellator gets up and unlatches the bolt, and opens the door.

“What do you want with me now? You fired me, did you not?”

“I did, but that does not mean that you should be left alone.”

‘What are you suggesting?”

“I need to know if you still have the amulet, we need to keep it safe, and as you are no longer part of my army I cannot trust it in your possession.”

“Ask your friend, Veronica.”

He slams the door in Thor's face.

Bellator heads up to bed, and falls asleep, as it's gotten quite late.

An uneventful night passes, and the kingdom wakes up to do their labors.

Veronica saunters through the wooded paths she knows so well, humming an old song to herself as she swings the amulet around one finger. She gets a little peeved, flicking the amulet a little, wondering to herself why Tori was so silent, but shrugs and listens to her sisters' interesting conversation about how they would kill Bellator if they were alive. She yawns as she chugs the last of her whiskey, frowning at the empty bottle.

Veronica teleports into the king's castle, spooking a couple of guards into action but they are both unable to truly do anything about the intruder. She wanders around until she finds the king.

Thor gets out of bed to find Veronica at the door.

“Wow, and I thought the coven house was big. How's your day, your majesty?”

“Not well since I just woke up. Do you have the amulet by any chance?”

“It's safe and sound, don't worry too much. Considering the fact that you fired your precious warrior, I thought you wouldn't want it in his hands.”

“You would be correct in that assumption. What brings you to the castle this morning?”

“I don't know, didn't think little Belli would appreciate me popping in again so I thought I'd stop by. here.”

“Have you made up your mind on if I can help you or not?”

“I don't know, there's not much I need. I can handle little Tori until he decides to pay a visit, but it's up to you to deal with him after that.”

“What do you want me to do after he "pays a visit"?

“She shrugs That's up to you. You're the king, sometimes you have to make hard decisions.”

“What if I fail, and my entire species dies, like I did before with your people.”

“I suppose that is possible, but you could save them too. I can't hold your hand through it all.”

Toriaku wakes up in his amulet yawning. “I can hear you, ya know.”

“Ah, hello sleeping beauty, enjoy your nap?”

‘Yes, thank you very much.”

Bellator wakes up with a yawn, early as the alcohol of the last night made him restless.

He walks downstairs and makes breakfast, and sits down with his last bottle of whiskey. He finishes the whiskey before his food and feels slightly woozy.

He gets up and walks outside, taking a deep breath of fresh air. The river beneath the road smells salty, as the majority of the land around the city is beneath sea level, and as such rivers flow from the sea inland instead of the opposite.

“Hey, Veronica, might you throw this amulet in the nearest river? I’d like to initiate my plan.”

“How about no.” She says, still swinging the amulet around her finger.

“Tick, tock on the clock, travel through your town. Someone’s coming to kill you and burn it all down.” Veronica hums as she bounces between buildings, waiting and watching the people below.
