The Order Of The Divine was abnormally large. Though the front door was small and old, the inside was the opposite. The corridors were decorated elaborately, beige tiles covering both the floor and the ceiling. The first, and main, room was even more incredible. The ceiling was ten times higher than the corridors, a feat which seemed impossible due to height of the hill, and eight large pillars stood to the side, meeting in the middle in an overly complex pattern.
‘Woah…’ Julian muttered in awe as he stepped into the room, craning his neck back so he could look to the ceiling. Even though he had lived in a palace in his whole life, this was incredible.
Alice was even more shocked than the other two, as she obviously hadn’t spent her life in a palace. She had never seen such an amazing structure before, and the fact that it was buried in a tiny hill made it even more unbelievable.
‘Magic.’ Oliver said, stuffing his hands into his pockets. He took a few steps further into the room. ‘Definitely magic.’
Instead of looking up to the ceiling and the amazing décor, Oliver looked at the elf, who he could now see completely. Intricate tattoos covered him from head to toe, taking the form of arrows as they came to an end.
‘Stand there.’ His words bought all of them back to reality, as his wrinkled old arm pointed to black, tiled circle in the middle of the room.
‘All of us?’ Alice asked nervously, obviously not comfortable in the situation.
‘Yes.’ The elf nodded, looking over them in a creepy manner. ‘Anyone who steps into our lair must let us reach into their minds.’
‘Well, okay then…’ Julian pursed his lips and stepped onto the circle. ‘Let’s get this over and done with…’
The other two were shortly behind, and the three of them looked inquisitively at the elf.
‘This is how it’s going to work…’ He took a slight step forward. ‘When I command, you will fall into a deep sleep. We will see the most important aspects of you and your memories.’
He looked pointedly at Julian. ‘And it might show you what you’re looking for.’
Before any of them could say anything in protest, eight other elves surrounded them, coming from somewhere in the shadows. Each of them were dressed in old, tattered robes, and they all had the same tattoos which could be seen trailing up their arms.
‘Relax.’
The one word sent them into a deep reverie, their bodies collapsing on the floor. Their heads went empty. As certain memories came to the fore front of their minds, they floated out of their bodies, appearing as spectators to parts of their lives.
