Holly crossed the campgrounds to the girls’ cabin, but before she could open the door she heard the four girls scream. Holly threw the door open just in time for Cathy to kick a cockroach out the door right into Holly’s face. Now Holly was screaming as well, clawing at the roach trying to get it off of her. When she finally succeeded, she watched it scuttle away. Holly took a deep breath and composed herself. It was just a roach. No reason to scream.
Meanwhile, Cathy’s hand went to her mouth in disbelief and immediately began apologizing profusely. Holly shook her head, “I’m fine Cathy, it’s all fine. I’m just here to let you all know that the mixer is going to start in less than twenty minutes. Everyone meet in the main hall. I’ll see you there!”
Holly walked away from the cabin until she heard a crunch under her feet. She shuddered, realizing what had just happened: she had just crushed the cockroach that had scared her moments before. Wiping off her gut covered sole in the dirt, she cursed softly, “Of course it’s a freaking cockroach. Ugh, gross.”
Finally, she made it to the main hall, where she found Alex waiting for her. “Hey, do you want to help me set up real quick?”
Alex nodded then followed Holly to the sound booth, where Holly connected her cell phone to the aux cord and started playing some music. A heavy bassline began booming over the loudspeakers, and she turned off the house lights after turning on the colorful lights that danced around the room. Holly then turned to Alex and told her what the rooming situation was going to be.
“Oh, thank you so much. You really didn’t have to do that,” Alex replied.
Holly shook her head, “It was that or let you sleep with the guys and I know you wouldn’t have been comfortable with that. So, I made the call. I know it’s not the same as rooming with the girls, but at least you’ll have some privacy. I’ll move most of my stuff out tonight.”
Alex smiled and walked out of the sound booth with Holly right as the boys came into the main hall. The girls came in not long after and for the next few hours, everyone danced and had a great time. Holly and Cathy helped serve sodas from a table on the side of the room and Bob made sure that no one got too close to each other, much to the chagrin of the high schoolers.
Around midnight, things began to settle down and Holly wished everyone a good night and had everyone go back to their cabins. “Lights out in twenty!” She called as everyone filed out of the main hall, “We have a big day tomorrow! Get some rest!”
Holly led Alex to her cabin and grabbed her things from the room. “The bed is made up for you, so get some sleep. I’ll see you in the morning.” Holly closed the door behind her and made her way to the girls’ cabin. She set up in the bed above Cathy’s and changed into pajamas. When it was time for lights out, she turned out the lights then climbed into bed. It had been a long day. She set the alarm on her phone to go off at 6 AM, then slowly drifted off to sleep.
