I should explain why "life is a causeway" if more depressing than "life is a cabaret"
"Causeway: noun:
a raised road or track across low or wet ground"- they get flooded and unusable every now and again
"Cabaret: noun:
entertainment held in a nightclub or restaurant while the audience eat or drink at tables"- something fun and full of excitement.
